Ankeny Receiver Brody Brecht Commits to Hawkeyes

The first part of that quote was a little surprising as the clowns have had more success getting wideouts to the NFL than Iowa has lately. The baseball part is fun, that clown baseball team has not looked very good. They haven't won a game since 2001. :)
I like to think some of these recruits have the bigger picture in mind. Arland Bruce had a good quote where he said he hears the “Iowa doesn’t throw to WRs stuff” but said that if you actually look at the numbers last year they were throwing the ball and spreading it around to multiple WRs.

Is Iowa State an NFL WR factory or did Allen Lazard and Hakeem Butler happen to just be studs in their own right? I mean there is an outside chance Iowa gets two WRs drafted in the 2021 draft next year. That might change the reputation.

No idea but they've had 2 recently and I can't remember the last Iowa wideout to have any success in the NFL (Kasper maybe?), I believe McNutt in 2012 was the last Iowa wide receiver to be drafted. It sucks that Lazard felt he had to waste his college years at Iowa State. But I wouldn't call ISU a NFL WR factory at all, I'm just giving credit where credit is due. Iowa could use another Quinn Early, the best WR Iowa has had in the NFL by a mile.

I look forward to seeing ISMs 40 time... Dude is fast. Probably needs to get stronger and put on a few lbs for the NFL but smaller guys then him have made impacts. He's a football player. Speaking of football players B Smith physically looks the part. Would like to see him stay healthy all yr and get more touches too. It's not impossible they both get in the NFL. I'd say it's pretty likely they'll both get a shot.

I'm really rooting for BB to be a two-sport athlete. We're just not seeing them much these days with football being a year-round endeavor. I loved watching Bo Jackson. And it was just more common back in the day.

I remember talking to Wirfs and Epenesa before they got here. They were excited to continue on in their track careers. Then they got here and found it wasn't going work because of the time commitments in football.

Joey Woody, the Iowa track coach, said a few months ago that he thought both of those guys would have been all-B1G if not more.

That makes 8 out of the top 10 Iowa kids in the fold to be Hawkeyes.... Since the Bollers kid won't be coming that pretty much just leaves the Fidone TE kid left. I'm not sure what's more impressive. The fact there's that many kids up for grabs in state but the fact there's so many that are that dang good too. I mean they are all high D1 level talent worthy of being fought over. Iowa is killing it absolutely killing it. KF has this train rolling
Iowa State about to go 0/10 on the top 10 instate kids this year. Swung by CF to read some fun. Most are disappointed in the recruiting efforts, some attribute it to these kids growing up Iowa fans, and then CyTwins is rambling on about how Brock Purdy is the #3 QB in the mock drafts behind Lawrence and Fields.

Edit. Zack Twedt who we flipped from ISU would be their top recruit right now per 247. He’s our 11th rated recruit right now.
I don't follow recruiting too much. According to Rivals ISU has 12 pledged of which 8 are 3 stars. 247 has them with 11 commits and all 3 stars. I'm wondering if rivals giving ISU commits lower rankings is the source of their pessimism? Last seasons ISU final record of 7 and 6 and a bad loss to Notre Dame in a bowl game are not great selling points in-state or out of state.

Danan Hughes comes to mind. There's been a couple guys play baseball and football in the past. So the football team just demands more time now then they did in the 90s I suppose... Which is too bad. Obviously they all have fun playing them and would like to keep doing it if they could .

Somebody brought up Danan Hughes on Twitter when we were talking about BB playing baseball. Danan will be 50 years old this year. Tim Dwight ran track, but that was for Hayden and he will turn 45 this summer.

Again, I'm hoping BB can do it. It just seems like the deck is stacked against athletes from doing it these days with football being one of the sports.

I always wondered how far Hughes would have went in baseball. He got drafted in the 3rd round by the Brewers but gave it up once his pro football career kinda took off.

I’m not sure on Rivals, I think the 247 rating and their composite rankings are the best. Recruiting rankings aren’t perfect as we know, but they aren’t total garbage either.

There is some speculation too that maybe some recruits think Matt Campbell might be heading for greener pastures after one more year with Purdy. I have no idea if that’s real or fake just something I read.

Is Jeff Samardzja a good comp? Not saying BB will reach those levels on the baseball diamond or the football field but it is a recent reference point.

Somewhat recent. Shark is 35.

I was thinking more about Iowa. Ogwo and Campbell tried it with track and football. They both ended up switching to track only.

Again, I’m pulling for BB. I’d love to see it.

I do think Henry Marchese is trying it. I don’t think he’s done much with baseball to this point, however.
