Amazing Feat...

Kirk Ferentz now has the 4th most wins all time in the history of Big Ten Football. There is something to be said for longevity, but I for one, like the way his teams come to play and play physical. There is no quit in any of his teams.

The other thing that's pretty amazing is that he's 15-0 in the last five years against teams named Iowa State, Minnesota, and Nebraska. It's been 6 years since any of those teams had a trophy in their Football Complex. At Iowa, 15-0 against your three biggest rivals provides you a guaranteed lifetime contract. KF quits when he wants to.

PS...I know Wisconsin is an issue during this timeframe...but Wisconsin has been an issue for the entire West Division.

For any criticisms I have of KF (it's mainly the offense) I agree. The guy has done a lot of good and his conference win total is impressive regardless of what anyone says.

Iowa football has been pretty lucky to have Hayden Fry and KF as our coaches the past 4 decades. Most programs would be pretty happy with that stability and the solid amount of success we've had.

I've been frustrated at times, absolutely, but this is why I've never been one to jump on the "fire KF" bandwagon. We have a solid program.

KF has done an exceptional job developing players into very good college players and NFL talent. Which is what you need at Iowa but unfortunately what has really hurt us a few years is the talent leaving to the NFL.

if you take a look at the players that left early and the teams they had follow after them there was a very good chance in many of those years to be easily top 10 teams and compete for some playoff positions. I think his consistency to have competitive teams really shows how good of a coach he is.

His philosophy has won him a lot of games and he has stuck with it for over 20 years which says a lot in this day and age and how much football has changed in that time.

Iowa isn’t like Ohio State, Alabama, and some of the other teams where the initial depth isn’t there where we can afford injuries or guys leaving. KF and staff need the time to turn some of these guys into players. It is a huge credit to him but it makes you wonder what he could do with a bunch of 4-5 star talent. Would it mesh with his personality to handle some of the egos?

I have been critical of him in the past but we have been very fortunate to have him, now let’s enjoy a great bowl game. GO HAWKS

Nice to see some reasonable analysis including the good and the not so good. Right there with you!
