Am I guilty of.....

projecting my own behaviors on other posters? By that I mean when we lose a game like Penn St. and everyone is melting down, the season looks like it's lost, everything is shit that I just stay away from this place. I don't like being here, I am pissed off anyway, and all the negativity and everything else gets me down even more, so I just stay away.

So what I am saying is I guess there are several members of the toxic crowd that have been notably absent from around here after beating Nebby. They stayed away last season as well for the most part (except after the Stanford beatdown). Do they just want to avoid the upbeat and positive nature of this board after wins/good seasons?

Like I said am I guilty of projecting my own behaviors on others, or do they actually not enjoy being around here after wins and being positive and upbeat?

I think they stay away for the most part after wins, because it doesn't fit their narrative that we need to get rid of coach Ferentz. Right now you will see them because they will grind on what the season should have been due to losses to NDSU and NW. Yes those losses sucked, but what can you do about them? I'm actually impressed with how this team, coaches and players, salvaged a season that could have been a total failure after the Penn State loss. Great finish to the season.

Home game. Hard to post when one lives 200 miles from Iowa City. Long drive home!
We just beat the most important team on our schedule as far as I am concerned. We grew up in western Iowa with all the Big Red Crap. Those days are over. There is a new sheriff in town!

It's called "trolling". The usual suspects (OutofTownHawk, 5656, Haymaker, Travisam, Hock23, et. al.) can be counted on for what you describe.

Hell, Champless is backhanding this win with "unhealthy Armstrong" comments and the continued under-utilization of Wadley. I think he may have thrown in a Wegher reference, too.

Spot-on.

I said the season is OVER after PSU and felt that way. I am still very much disgusted losing to NDSU & NW both teams who out played us.

The staff and team deserves a lot of credit for finishing the regular season strong but the absolute capper now is to finally win a bowl game again. That in my mind would make the season satisfying. It's still a lost opportunity to follow up a ten win plus season with a second 10+ win season given everything was in our favor but satisfying none the less as we got some things accomplished.

To reiterate my view point... losing to NDSU & NW was all about lackluster and unacceptable efforts. How does that happen with everything to play for this year? Why does it take a near implosion every time for this program to kick it into high gear and give a max and unified effort which is so great to see? That's my issue with KFs leadership along with not holding players accoutable when there is repeatedly bad on-the-field performance at positions.

I think the answer to my question is KF runs an NFL style not too high, not too low mentality program. He does not typically coach to the emotional side of college football (which is big) so it's up to the players to collectively generate and bring that on many occasions. Our talent level is just not good enough overall so if the kids do not play with that edge we can and do lose to anyone. You start to hear snipets from guys after PSU about not 'wanting to go out this way'. Presto we see a completely different level of play and execution. Mix in a couple of new guys to the lineup Rugamba, Gair, Faith, Fant, Render/Paulsen, etc mostly due to injury and that also adds to the energy level. It also serves to replace guys that are underperforming.

Now win a freaking bowl game!

Has been a nice recovery... 8-4 is respectable.

However, Dean.... It's no different than the "Kirk People" being silent and gone during the losing times and showing up when the winning starts (which of course I see posting more now). The behavior is really predictable on both sides.

Was a great win yesterday and the season seems more satisfying then it did a few weeks ago for sure.

Agreed, that was my whole point. I guess I think it is sad that some would rather just bitch, moan, complain and bash in the down times.....and not celebrate the good times. Seems miserable to me is all.

I don't consider OOTH or Travisam trolls. Homer ain't bad either.

It was an odd year for me...Hell after last year I expected Indianapolis again this year, but after early losses and CJ not really looking the part from last year I thought a 6-6 record was in order, but I'll be damned if the kids didn't step up and finish strong....I'm just as critical at times, but those others mentioned are just pot stirrers that I choose not to get involved with....

Just because someone disagrees with you, doesn't mean they're toxic. Get over yourself.

It's a passing grade season that fell into the range of expectations for this year. Good season, and proud of the way they fought down the stretch.

Am I toxic because I wanted KF fired? Am I toxic because I want GD gone? Am I toxic because I thought Barta gave KF a ridiculous contract? Am I toxic because I called the team pathetic after the Penn St. game?

I have no problem with people criticizing KF, the staff, the program, any of it. I just don't get the mindset when people don't want to at least celebrate the good times......all they want to do is be miserable in the down times. That to me is what toxic is.

Huh. I know you consider me part of the toxic crowd and I was celebrating. Doesn't mean I'm going to do a 180 on my opinion of kf, especially his hypocritical policies on recruiting.

Cool......why do you care if I think you are toxic? You think I'm an "apologist" and love KF more than Iowa. I think that isn't accurate at all. It is ok for you to label me, but I can't label you?

All I want is an explanation as to why Iowa looked so good the last 3 weeks of the season and like a B1G championship team, but prior to that we lost 3 home games, with terrible offense and defense, and got smoked on the road at PSU. So, we can all be happy with the way the season ended, and I think all Hawk fans are.

But, if you don't stop and an honest and unbiased look at the realities, then you can't fix any problems. Who is Iowa? The last three games, or the first 9? Does anyone feel that Iowa completely missed out on an opportunity to win back-to-back West titles and a chance to win the B1G, by playing so poorly in the first 9 games? I do.

So, all of you pat yourself on the backers and it's all gooders, because we finished strong, please explain the first 9 games of the season to me.

I'm down with what you're saying, but I wouldn't give so much credit to the offense. The defense has definitely looked like B1G championship caliber, but the offense, well, let's just say that the players aren't exactly getting what they deserve from the coaches; one thing I think almost all of us can agree on (GD and/or BK).
