Am I guilty of.....

There's several that come here who post nothing but negative crap win or lose. All of us post negatives from time to time especially when we lose playing boring football. There are some who must live miserable lives because all they do is post negative and attack other posters personally. There are some who've never posted a positive thought but if they can bring someone down that's the only enjoyment they get in there lives. We all know who they are.

At least get my name right.

Yesterday was an impressive win but brings up 2 points..

1) where was this effort against an Fcs opponent, against NW, against PSU and Wisconsin?

2) I don't believe it is an accident that we lose a player on D that is an awful player and all of a sudden we become a defensive powerhouse.

Both of these are coaching deficiencies in my humble opinion.

This is the biggest difference between Iowa & Wisconsin's programs. Each season Iowa has 3/4 games where they are completely sleepwalking (NDSU, Rutgers, PSU) with a few games where a half is lackluster. Then they'll have 3/4 games where they come out like their lives depend on it (ISU, Michigan, & Nebraska).

Wisconsin on the other hand has about 2 games each season where they sleepwalk through it. They've had some strange losses and lackluster wins too over the years but the rest they're ready. That is why you see them pound on so many lower teams into submission.

Our defense couldn't stop jNW, WU's and NDSU in crunch time and got smoked by PSU. The defense did play more consistently, as a whole, for the season, but was bad for a full 1/3 of the season.

I'm a lot more forgiving toward the defense. Did you see my thread on how many positions didn't have the best player on the field? Put those players in those positions and we probably win the West this year.

I did not see that, but it is a fair point. I believe if we'd beaten WU's we'd be champs, right? neither O or D played well that game, though.

Or if we beat northwestern we would have a shot at Wisconsin losing today. That would be like watching another iowa game as far as rooting interest goes.

Good point. Consolation: We smoked the hello out of kNU! We've won 3 of the last 4 and that feels great.

One thing that helps get over the 2 bad early losses is even if we win both of them, we still don't go to Indy. Wisconsin just refuses to go away.
That doesn't help because if the team that played the last three games had played Wisconsin, Iowa would have won.

Talk about taking on your coach's personality. If you believe in that stuff Iowa is clear evidence of it.

--------So what I am saying is I guess there are several members of the toxic crowd that have been notably absent from around here after beating Nebby.

I still enjoy watching my Hawks, but Ferments lost me for GOOD in The Shoe 2009....NO win or smoke and mirrors season could ever result in me wavering on this...and I am not a stubborn person either. I just know what we have in him...that's it.

All I want is an explanation as to why Iowa looked so good the last 3 weeks of the season and like a B1G championship team, but prior to that we lost 3 home games, with terrible offense and defense, and got smoked on the road at PSU. So, we can all be happy with the way the season ended, and I think all Hawk fans are.

But, if you don't stop and an honest and unbiased look at the realities, then you can't fix any problems. Who is Iowa? The last three games, or the first 9? Does anyone feel that Iowa completely missed out on an opportunity to win back-to-back West titles and a chance to win the B1G, by playing so poorly in the first 9 games? I do.

So, all of you pat yourself on the backers and it's all gooders, because we finished strong, please explain the first 9 games of the season to me.

<<Who is Iowa? The last three games, or the first 9?>>

The first person to successfully answer THAT one gets a gold star!

<<Does anyone feel that Iowa completely missed out on an opportunity to win back-to-back West titles and a chance to win the B1G, by playing so poorly in the first 9 games?>>

I don't "feel" it, I KNOW it...as fact.

<<I do.>>
That's called 20-20 hindsight.

In all honesty, I don't think we realize what we lost on Blythe, or how much of a toll musical chairs can take on an OL. I also think losing Tevaun Smith and Canzeri hurts. Canzeri's running was "replaced", and Wadley has proven to be very effective out of the backfield, but we didn't utilize it until late. My guess is that, other than the Rose Bowl against a 2nd- and 3rd-string Stanford defense, he hadn't shown it enough.

We also had weaknesses on D, evidenced by guys going off assignment WAY too often. Once they had the confidence in themselves and each other to stay on-task, we saw a huge difference. But if you told me the defense from weeks 1, 3, 5 and 9 would become the defense of the past three weeks I would have urged you to do the 12-step deal.
