Am I guilty of.....

I'm down with what you're saying, but I wouldn't give so much credit to the offense. The defense has definitely looked like B1G championship caliber, but the offense, well, let's just say that the players aren't exactly getting what they deserve from the coaches; one thing I think almost all of us can agree on (GD and/or BK).

Our defense couldn't stop jNW, WU's and NDSU in crunch time and got smoked by PSU. The defense did play more consistently, as a whole, for the season, but was bad for a full 1/3 of the season.

Good 3 game stretch to end the season but still significant problems with the program

1. Recruiting
2. Offense in general and KF's refusal to even acknowledge there is a problem
3. Gair, Faith, Manny, Fant, and even Jackson looked better than the guys who played ahead of them most of the season. Are there any other players sitting on the bench that could help this team on the field?

I was referring more to just the last 3 games. My point was more about Phil doing a hell of lot better than Derpvis. Don't get me wrong though, Phil definitely has shortcomings, but GD, IMO, is just worthless as a OC.

Our defense certainly finished the last 3 games in a B1G championship fashion, so did our running game. Our passing game...not so much.

It was an odd year for me...Hell after last year I expected Indianapolis again this year, but after early losses and CJ not really looking the part from last year I thought a 6-6 record was in order, but I'll be damned if the kids didn't step up and finish strong....I'm just as critical at times, but those others mentioned are just pot stirrers that I choose not to get involved with....

One thing that helps get over the 2 bad early losses is even if we win both of them, we still don't go to Indy. Wisconsin just refuses to go away.

3 might be the biggest problem of them all. 3 is especially a problem when you factor in 1.

Anyone that's been paying attention the last 10 years, understands that kf does this, yet so many people refuse to accept it as fact. Remember Herb Grigsby?

What's weird is people think picking the best player is so cut and dry that it's impossible for a coach to be bad at it. When a position battle is up for grabs (unless it's an extremely easy call) Kirk picks the player with the right personality. Having 5 players or so on the field that are slightly better than the other guy can make a huge difference. I think we saw that difference at the end of this year.

I think Faith, Rugamba, and Gair all played noticeably better than their predecessors.

I have to admit for the second season in a row KF has proved me wrong. I thought we were left for dead after PSU and we would suck for the rest of our years under KF. Still a couple of head scratching losses but redeemed by unbelievable wins. I'm happy. I enjoyed the last 3 very much. With all that said I still hope GD "retires". Brutal offense outside of ISU and Little Red games.

I agree that the 3 mentioned looked better. Not sure what happens in practice but I said last night all 3 should've been playing longer

Home game. Hard to post when one lives 200 miles from Iowa City. Long drive home!
We just beat the most important team on our schedule as far as I am concerned. We grew up in western Iowa with all the Big Red Crap. Those days are over. There is a new sheriff in town!

Exactly. Some of us go to the games, have lives and do not live on this board 7 days a week.

All I want is an explanation as to why Iowa looked so good the last 3 weeks of the season and like a B1G championship team, but prior to that we lost 3 home games, with terrible offense and defense, and got smoked on the road at PSU. So, we can all be happy with the way the season ended, and I think all Hawk fans are.

But, if you don't stop and an honest and unbiased look at the realities, then you can't fix any problems. Who is Iowa? The last three games, or the first 9? Does anyone feel that Iowa completely missed out on an opportunity to win back-to-back West titles and a chance to win the B1G, by playing so poorly in the first 9 games? I do.

So, all of you pat yourself on the backers and it's all gooders, because we finished strong, please explain the first 9 games of the season to me.

Sorry to say it, but "That's Football". Iowa didn't have any business beating Michigan, but they did. Pitt shouldn't have been able to walk into Clemson and beat them, but they did. Houston throttles Louisville and loses to Memphis?

No team plays it's best all year long, and we for sure lost two games that we shouldn't have (NDSU and Northwestern). Yet most teams in college football can say the same thing, or at least 1 loss they shouldn't have. It is what it is, that is college sports, and that is why we all watch the drama each and every week.

Sometimes people play better in games than they do on the practice field. If you don't give them a chance you will never know. That's part of KF downfall. You must be a shinning star in practice and have the best work ethic or you won't see the field. To some players it's all about playing in the game.

People don't understand how a team can beat Michigan but lose to NDSU. But in reality, Michigan lost to a team it shouldn't have and Iowa lost to a team it shouldn't have. Most teams do that at least once a year.

It's called "trolling". The usual suspects (OutofTownHawk, 5656, Haymaker, Travisam, Hock23, et. al.) can be counted on for what you describe.

Hell, Champless is backhanding this win with "unhealthy Armstrong" comments and the continued under-utilization of Wadley. I think he may have thrown in a Wegher reference, too.

At least get my name right.

Yesterday was an impressive win but brings up 2 points..

1) where was this effort against an Fcs opponent, against NW, against PSU and Wisconsin?

2) I don't believe it is an accident that we lose a player on D that is an awful player and all of a sudden we become a defensive powerhouse.

Both of these are coaching deficiencies in my humble opinion.
