Along with winning games, a college coach is judged on the number of his players that graduate, the amount of money the football program produces, the character of his players off the field, community work, etc.

Name me one job where a person is evaluated on one thing and one thing only.

Wait. You really think anyone at Alabama cares whether or not those guys graduate? Kicking *** and domination is the only thing they care about. Again you are saying that people are showing up to Kinnick because James Morris has a 3.5 GPA, will graduate and become a productive member of society which in turn makes the football program money. I've yet to hear of a successful head football coach get fired with 9+ win seasons and BCS bowl games under his tenure because of a low graduation rate.

Go ahead and try again.
 


How about that, another twist on the Ferentz salary gripe.

Here's another one for you, he makes more than 240 Full Time McDonald's employees. However, I think my comparison is fairer, since both give you indigestion.

Who among us is so noble to either refuse to get as much as they can from their employer or give some of that salary back if our performance isn't what it should be? He gets what he gets because the UI agreed to pay him that amount of money. For the umpteenth time, that's not his fault, nor is it a guarantee of results going forward.

Frank Solich was fired with a record of 58-19 at Nebraska and a resume that included 2 BCS Bowl appearances, including 1 appearance in the BCS Title Game.

And I am going to guess you are also in favor of oversigning like the SEC and more or less cuttting players from their schollies if they get injured or dont pan out.

Just win, I don't give a crap about graduation rates, gpa's or the wholesomeness of players.

1) Don't compare Iowa or Iowans to mouth breathers.

2) If that's what it takes to win, yes. If you haven't noticed the NCAA is letting the inmates run the asylum. Cam Newton, U$C, O$U, Oregon, Manziel. Give me a reason we shouldn't be working within the confines of their "rules"?

Actually, oversigning is against B1G rules and scholarships are binding for 4 years also in the B1G. Im sure you knew that though. So if we worked within the confines of "their rules" we would be breaking the conference rules. Derp.

Scholarship athletes were privy to other perks that walk-ons didnt get until recently. Meals, training table, etc were only for scholarship players until the last couple years. Im pretty sure both Brian and James earned those.

Wrong on both counts. Oversigning is within the rules in the B1G. You can oversign by 3. And there is no written legislation about 4 yr schollys.

You can oversign by 3 only if you explain how you will stay at the limit of 85 total schollies. For some odd reason I dont think Delany's office would approve of Saban's tactics to stay at 85. Totally different rules.

Written legislation, haha. B1G schools have agreed to the practice and let me know when someone that has agreed to it changes their mind and goes back to year by year schollies. Until then, you wont see it happen at Iowa.

SOOOOOOOOO KF is the reason Iowa Football is a money maker? I'm pretty sure IA football will make even more money when I can where my hawkey gear around proudly and not have to hear about ISU, Western MI, Central MI, terrible goopher teams etc. owning us. Just admit the fact that we are probably better off with out KF and the promise of the future with out him is better than with him.

The oversigning rules are different between leagues but you said the B1G can't do it. You were wrong, they can & do.
As for the written legislation on 4 yr schollys, its a marketing term. Simple as that. If they want someone out, they'll get 'em out. They're year to year renewable schollys. If you aren't a complete moron you'll keep yours but you said they were 4 yr deals, which they aren't. Every year those scholarships are granted. Not one time in the history of the world has a real 4 year scholarship been given at the UI.

Marketing term. The B1G thought it would give them a leg up on catching the SEC. The SEC just issued the same types of gibberish that they were going to do the same. LOL

They might as well just say they're going to honor 50 yr scholarships.

Go ask an athlete on scholarship. They'll tell you that those scholarships are renewed each year.

I know you are'nt really perplexed, but I'll play along. When teams win they sell things more goodly like apparel and tickets and such. When they don't win thy typically make less money ie Mn lately. Enough not winning equals loss of revenue see recent downward trend toward winning in the KF recent past. I know even the staunchest KF supporter can see that the last 3 seasons are at least a downward trend. Admit at least it is embarraing for a program like IA to lose to MAC schools on the regular, if you can't agree to that you have way too low of standards for IA football.
