Alford Issues Apology Regarding Pierce

I'm as skeptical as the rest, but I still think it's better that he issued the apology rather than not issuing one at all. At least it's something.

It's never too late to apologize for something we have done or said. However, it is the motive behind the repentance that matters most. If Alford came to his AD and felt like he needed to do this because it has been weighing on his conscience and he needed to do it, then its never too late. If he did it because he felt like it was good PR and he was taking heat for it and this is an attempt to get the heat off his back? He'll have to deal with that.

Being that I don't know what it is, I sure as heck am not in a position to judge it, as I've apologized for things I've done and said years later after being convicted of the need to do so.

You can start now for leaving us with TnT in the Morning.

What a joke. This is worse than saying nothing.

too little, too late

only done after he was exposed publicly by a number of writers and had no choice.

And the self-righteous B.S. continues. "I've learned and grown a lot"?! BULLSH**... you were still deflecting responsibility just a week ago.

What a phony.

I see nothing wrong with Jon's statement. He is being honest and diplomatic concerning the situation.....

:)

I agree with this to the extent that if Alford wanted to seek out the female victim and personally apologize to her in a genuine manner, any time would be great for that. However, I think he is way, way too late to issue a public apology.

But like Jon said, it depends on the reason behind it. If he's being sincere, that's great. If not, it's on him. Regardless, none of us will ever know.

There was a good deal of pressure in LA around this. See Editorial: Alford owes communities public apology for poor handling of Iowa situation | Daily Bruin and Alford Apologizes While Guerrero Cowardly Throws Him Under The Bus - Bruins Nation

We don't know all of the events which led to Alford's apology today. I do know that Bruins Nation was hammering Alford and Guerrero (when nobody else was) over the failure to apologize for Alford's role in the Pierce rape case from the first moment he said nothing at the press conference. I do know that a intelligently and beautifully written petition was initiated and circulated by a BN community member and was close to 2,000 signatures a couple days ago. I do know that numerous BN community members called and emailed the AD and the Chancellor's office in the last week. I know the Daily Bruin published an opinion piece today calling on Alford to apologize.

We all know the statements are insincere, but they're well-crafted enough for him to put the issue to rest and "no comment" further inquiries. "Mistakes were made, I've addressed that, let's move on". Unless some dramatically new information emerges, additional articles will now be seen as overkill, piling on. At least in LA.

I hear ya John and you are right on. Only thing I'd add is that there is a pattern of alford not taking responsibility with anything bad that happens. Having said that, I certainly do not know his heart.

This

Let he who is without sin (or need to apology for something in the past) cast the first stone.

This is a misrepresentation of Scripture. If you take your mindset on this literally, we wouldn't convict anybody of a crime because we have all done bad things in our past as well.

Many of you here, are too young to know what real journalism is. Or rather...was. Today you got a glimpse of what it used to be.

You may not like Pat Harty.... you may think people are "obsessed" with Alford... and you may see him as a model of success, simply because he's made some good money and stayed ahead of the posse.

But his "apology" (and I use the term loosely) was a clear result of one thing; the media called him out on his Bullsh**, and they forced his hand. They did their job. It happens all too infrequently.

I know. Anyone with half a brain knows. I have no doubt Alfraud has zero remorse for what he did. He is a text book narcissist and only knows how to externalize blame. This statement is soooo obviously a weak attempt to placate the media and make this go away ASAP. The fact that some on this board see it as anything but makes me laugh and cry. Some people are so easily manipulated.

I don't believe his apology is genuine. But to me, there is only 1 person he needs to apologize to and I would rather not know when/if he does. That is to the victim. Apologize to her with no cameras, or media and I would say it is genuine. I don't know her, so I will never know if it were to happen, but I'm fine with that.

The incident was over a decade ago. You don't go from "I was just following orders," to sincere remorse in a week. Not when you've already had 11 years to think about what you've done. It was complete ********, and it's blatantly obvious.

He should be. This, combined with the inevitable failure of his on-court product, could easily have him booted within 3 years.
