Nothing like puntin' 'em right into fieldgoal range...
Just shows no matter if you are a blue-chip backup QB (Gilbert) or small-town backup QB (Vandenberg), that getting thrown into the game unexpectedly isn't an easy task at all.
Granted it's the National Championship, but amazes me that a 5-star #5 QB in the country last year is completely lost and then Vandenberg (3-star #50 QB) goes to Ohio State with a lot on the line and nearly pulls off a gigantic upset! Just goes to show what a great coaching staff and hard work can do!

That's how the game goes. A wins a win. If Iowa was in Bama's position I wouldn't be crying because the opponents QB got knocked out. The record books still list the winners name, no matter how they got there.

It's like somebody else said earlier though. Vandy looked like crap when he came in for Stanzi. He looked good when he had a week to work with the offense. This is the same here. Gilbert was thrown in without any warning. If he had a week to prepare, things would look different.
I wonder how many snaps Gilbert got this week with the #1's.

This is a horrible BCS national championship game. I am now officially playing MW2.

If Iowa was in Alabama's position and won the title against a team w/out their star QB then everyone including ESPN would degrade the win in every way they could. But since it is Saban, Alabama and SEC they will gloat the victory as a fantastic accomplishment.
Media loves a 'Cinderella' story come basketball season but a 'Cinderella' story is frowned upon during football season (Example: IOWA)!
