Alabama/Texas Thread

Just shows no matter if you are a blue-chip backup QB (Gilbert) or small-town backup QB (Vandenberg), that getting thrown into the game unexpectedly isn't an easy task at all.

Granted it's the National Championship, but amazes me that a 5-star #5 QB in the country last year is completely lost and then Vandenberg (3-star #50 QB) goes to Ohio State with a lot on the line and nearly pulls off a gigantic upset! Just goes to show what a great coaching staff and hard work can do!

JV also had a week to prepare for that game. He was 50% and threw for 70 some yds. against Northwestern.

It's like somebody else said earlier though. Vandy looked like crap when he came in for Stanzi. He looked good when he had a week to work with the offense. This is the same here. Gilbert was thrown in without any warning. If he had a week to prepare, things would look different.

Vandenberg was completely lost against NW. when he was thrown into action.

I wonder how many snaps Gilbert got this week with the #1's.:D

McElroy better be careful diving for first downs or he might even the QB score here by pulling a Steve Young.

That's how the game goes. A wins a win. If Iowa was in Bama's position I wouldn't be crying because the opponents QB got knocked out. The record books still list the winners name, no matter how they got there.

If Iowa was in Alabama's position and won the title against a team w/out their star QB then everyone including ESPN would degrade the win in every way they could. But since it is Saban, Alabama and SEC they will gloat the victory as a fantastic accomplishment.

Media loves a 'Cinderella' story come basketball season but a 'Cinderella' story is frowned upon during football season (Example: IOWA)!

You can't compare the JVB at Ohio St with Gilbert, JVB had a week to prepare and if Gilbert had a week also he would probably look different as well. JVB did look lost when he came in against NW and that is the game you need to use if you are going to compare the two.

I wouldn't care, and I don't think many Hawk fans would either. Once you get that trophy I could care less what the media says afterwards. The media can't take it away from you.

I could actually CRY for Texas right now....and I even wanted Alabama to smoke them in the first place.
