Ahmad Wagner Tweet

There's more than one reason. He's not a great basketball player. He's ok. He can have some moments but he'll be taking mins from players that can do more then him out there. That may be harsh but unless he's improved a ton that's true. The other side of it is what football team wouldn't want a 6'7 215 lb guy that can run like he can to play a hybrid WR type of role? Especially one that is as needy of WRs as Iowa is.. It would have been almost too perfect if he would have switched a year ago.. I'd say since he didn't do it before spring ball started it's probably too late for him now to maximize what he could have been. He'll be a what if story to me in that he could have had a future in football with hoops he probably isn't going to be good enough to cash checks over seas doing it...
And if Iowa had all 4 and 5 star talent people would leave every year because they weren't getting playing time. With a mix of 4 and possibly some 5 star talent plus 2 and 3 star talent that is underrated but have a tremendous work ethic, kids will stay and build experience and depth and develop. I still say he's needed on the basketball team more than the football team.

If you value a guy that probably will be coming off the bench playing less then 15-20 mins a game over a guy that would be playing a ton and scoring touchdowns being a mismatch nightmare on the football field then ok. Agree to disagree.

All due respect, where would Ahmad fit on the football depth chart? We are loaded with talent now and into the future, in the tight end slot. He will get his BB minutes, for sure, and be an experienced high energy guy.

To recap: Wagner is excited about the upcoming BASKETBALL season because he has team mates that are gym rats.

The front line is loaded.... Not sure where Wagner is going to get his minutes. The problem is if Bohannon goes down with an injury we are screwed.

I was looking at this from a hindsight angle of if he'd have switched over to football a year or even 2 ago preferably.. Now it's too late. That said there'd be room for a guy as big and fast as he is in the redzone if nothing else. He's only going to get less mins this year and next yr on the BB court not more... We are loaded with big guys that are bigger and have more skills then him.

For some perspective, Wagner was a good high school sprinter, running 100m times in the same neighborhood as MVB and Max Cooper (mid 11's, not elite but not slow). Can you imagine that speed with 6'7" and 215lbs?

IKR... Pure freak. You wonder what Doyle would have wanted to do with him. Do you bulk him up to 225ish? Or perhaps keep him where he is or lean him down to 210 or under? A guy like him could probably have been a heck of a DE too... But WR would have been just way too tempting as big of a mismatch as a 6'0 guy is guarding him on a basketball court would be it'd be that and then some on the football field....
