Aaron White's season...

White can be a 15/8 guy? He already is. He can be a 20/10 guy.
He has averaged 10.4/5.5 per game this year. That's a long way from averaging 15/8

I wonder what he averaged the last half of the year. he has definitely improved as the year has gone on. he is probably somewhere in between his season average and 15 and 8. if he could go back and replay the non conference schedule now it might get his average up to around 13 and 7 or so.

Yeah White was averaging a lot more minutes per game during the BT season. Next year he might hit the 15/8 as he could average 30 minutes per game. This year he only averaged 23.5 over the course of the season.

But in his last 12 games (against Conference opponents and Dayton) he has averaged 12.8 & 7.25. Not that far from 15 & 8.

So the player he is now is one offensive rebound and put back basket from a 15/8 player against the toughest competition of the season.

You can see his progress through the season and that is what has everyone so excited.

Not sure what numbers to expect scoring wise.

Aaron White is the type of basketball player who brings extra value because he does not have to dominate the ball to score. This means he scores a lot of his points on put back or off others penetrating and getting the ball to him. You really don't want White to shoot more just to score more. His scoring in theory could stay the same over the years as Iowa brings in better players. If Aaron was like Devyn or a wing and had the ball in his hands more often maybe I would expect a spike in scoring. Aaron is not really a create off the bounce scorer unless he has a mismatch.

I am fine if Aaron brings 13 points 7-8 rebonds per game over his career.

Agreed. AW has an innate feel for the game that you can't teach. Always gets a couple of buckets from put backs due to great positioning.

I like whatever position Aaron is playing right now, wouldn't mind him playing there the rest of the way. He does very well hovering around the wings watching and waiting for an opportunity......

He has the mindset of an assassin and is one of the very best picking up the trash, converting missed baskets into gold.....

Aaron can play the 3/4 position very well adjusting his game to whatever the opposition presents. He is developing a deadly three which makes him even more of a threat. His passing game is getting stronger. He appeared to be playing point a couple of times last night, getting a rebound, driving down the court, passing the ball to an open teammate, and on one occasion slamming the missed shot for a bucket.....

He is a pleasure to watch. Aaron's basketball savvy is off the charts, and is getting better and better. His confidence and attitude are improving every game. He is a dangerous man.....

:D

i would like to see the #s for the games he started, that is the true measuring stick, a starter goes in with a different mindset, in that they feel the need to be a scorer rather than as a reserve being a player to come in and hold the lead or increase slightly

That's crap. Any player who's got the kind of game that Aaron has, always comes onto the floor with one mindset: attack. That doesn't change whether you're a starter or a reserve.

have you not watched the games. he is a team 1st player, and knew his role and played accordingly. you obviously never played the game or even participated any capacity other than as a armchair coach.

That's how I described him a year ago and in the summer. He is nowhere, NOWHERE near as good a shooter as Hummel was at the same age. Hummel was a freaking great shooter. The other stuff? Yes. But not a shooter and I dont think he ever will be. Robbie Hummel was a very good all around player and still is. I think White can become a 15/8 guy before he leaves and there have not been too many of those in Iowa history.

The one thing that I would like to add is his defensive prowess, he seems to have the ability to make good decisions on jumping the passing lanes, altering shots with his length. I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't lead the B1G in steals at his position....not the overall league though.

When it's all said and done he may just be an all B1G defensive first teamer his junior and senior years. All I know is the future is very bright for AW the next 3 seasons in Iowa "frickin" City.

i would lock your doors if i was you jack. indeed aaron `s dangerous!

White's a small forward. Sometimes he tries some power forward moves and, a good deal of the time, he gets stopped by stronger players with better leaping and shot blocking abilities.

If White wants to be a power forward, if you guys want White to be a power forward, he'd better muscle up. Until then, when he's down low and being contested, he needs to pass the ball.

Anybody, including a center, can be a perimeter player on offense.

What you do on offense does not dictate what position you occupy in the lineup. There are lots of bigs who can shoot threes, that doesn't make them guards, there are lots of guards who can post up, that doesn't make them post players.

For the most part what spot on the other team you are going to defend dictates what slot you occupy.

White has only played the 4 or 5 this year.

I would still like whichever coaches in the Big Ten that did not vote White to the All-Freshman team tell me which five freshmen in the league they thought were better than White.

I think as White grows, he will become more consistent. Here are his points per game totals since Big Ten play began:

Jon- you seem kinda down on AW. Hummel was/is the better shooter, granted. But when have we seen a freshman with this kind of all around game in Iowa City? To me the answer is never.

He knew his role, but his mindset wasn't any different. He was making the same kind of plays all season. He got starter's minutes for the overwhelming majority of the year. Your mindset when getting 25 minutes as a 6th man isn't really any different than when you get 25 minutes as a starter.

Apparently, you haven't watched this season...White came in every game looking to attack. Just because he has a very high basketball IQ does not mean he approached the game differently from reserve to starter.
He runs the floor...every game
He attacked the glass...every game
He found the open man...every game

White knows how to play the game and knows who is, or isn't on. He is a team first guy no matter the situation. The one thing he doesn't do a lot of is force things. If you think he played differently as a starter than a reserve, you haven't been paying attention. The difference now is he is taking over games more and more even when others are playing well, like last night.

15/8 is kind of what I have been thinking, too. I think he may get there next year, actually. If you just pro rate his numbers out for 33 minutes a game based upon this years stats for the amount of minutes he plaed per game it is close, I think. As long as his effectiveness doesn't go down when his minutes go up...and before it is all over maybe it is a double double season when he is a junior or senior. You never know but he appears capable of it.
