Aaron White's season...

I've heard the "White is a poor man's Robbie Hummel" take and have used it myself. Well I'm going to say it now. White will be better than Hummel ever was. Pre-inury included.

This kid is going to be special. Might be one of the best Hawks ever at his position.

You can add strength without adding size. Mass will increase though somewhat. You trade fat for muscle, and you make the muscle you have, stronger. Looking at AW, he can do this and stay the same size, although he'll weigh more. He'll be quicker, and stronger. Take a look at Gatens. He is all muscle. AW can look more that way we hope in the future. He will be tough to handle.

I expect this next year!

Aaron has that stringy-strong,wiry kind of body that is actually a bit thicker than it looks. He weighs 228 lbs now, which is 8 more lbs than Mel,who has a bigger frame.

I always think of Bobby Jones when I watch Aaron. Jones was another rangy type player who was long, and explosive, and strong enough. Kevin Garnett has always looked thin, but is wiry strong. Those are good bb bodies,as there is less stress on the joints, and allows them to run very well without breaking down.
I would say that Aaron should add no more than 4-5 lbs of muscle to maybe get to 233 and work up to 237- 238 by his senior year. He has narrow shoulders so he cannot take on that much more muscle. He needs lateral quickness and to hone his outside shooting, and keep his other ball skills sharp...and good to go.

That's how I described him a year ago and in the summer. He is nowhere, NOWHERE near as good a shooter as Hummel was at the same age. Hummel was a freaking great shooter. The other stuff? Yes. But not a shooter and I dont think he ever will be. Robbie Hummel was a very good all around player and still is. I think White can become a 15/8 guy before he leaves and there have not been too many of those in Iowa history.

Compared to current players, I think the best comparison might be Doug McDermott. I'd give Doug the edge as a pure shooter, but their games are pretty similar; they can both beat you inside and outside, have good to great handles for guys at their position, and neither are physically imposing.

There was a debate on CF over how well McDermott would fare in the Big 12, and whether or not he would still have made all-American. I think White will offer a good barometer for what McDermott could have done at a Power 6 school.

White has gone from role player, to a key reserve, to a starter, to a team leader all in the course of ONE season. He was arguably the best player on the court last night. His upside is huge. It is very rare to see a player who makes this kind of progress so quickly. He must have a very high bb IQ.

Creighton All-Americans are legit. Look no further than Kyle Korver for confirmation of that.

Agreed. He reminds me of a player back in the day when weight lifting was frowned upon because it was thought to ruin your shot. While he needs to get stronger, he doesn't need to become a big muscle guy.

White's a small forward. Sometimes he tries some power forward moves and, a good deal of the time, he gets stopped by stronger players with better leaping and shot blocking abilities.

If White wants to be a power forward, if you guys want White to be a power forward, he'd better muscle up. Until then, when he's down low and being contested, he needs to pass the ball.

White is a good player indeed but let's not make him first team AA just yet. He needs to work on his shot, pull-up jumper etc.

careful. the "he's strictly a 4" crowd don't jump you, for even thinking he could be a sf

These labels are fluid. Some nights he can play a PF because of the size or ability of the other team down low. Some nights he can play the SF due to the same. Doesn't matter.

Agreed, actually he is versatile enough to play center if Fran wants to play small ball, his best position is power forward, Kevin Love is the T-wolves best 3 pt shooter and plays both power forward and center,

Well he isn't 15/8 yet but I think he will surpass those numbers.

Not sure what numbers to expect scoring wise.

Aaron White is the type of basketball player who brings extra value because he does not have to dominate the ball to score. This means he scores a lot of his points on put back or off others penetrating and getting the ball to him. You really don't want White to shoot more just to score more. His scoring in theory could stay the same over the years as Iowa brings in better players. If Aaron was like Devyn or a wing and had the ball in his hands more often maybe I would expect a spike in scoring. Aaron is not really a create off the bounce scorer unless he has a mismatch.

I am fine if Aaron brings 13 points 7-8 rebonds per game over his career.
