Aaron White is...

White has turned it on exactly how you want to see. Bring in a stout rebounder and a guard that can create and Iowa will be a totally different team.

thatta boy Aaron! Get here soon. Can't wait to see him and Basabe together next year. That'll be a lot of length in the front court

I like White, but as with Matt Gatens, building expectations is risky. In two years fans could turn on him and say he was overrated. Better that he does not get much hype or fans will buy into it.

White and Gatens are two totally different players. Gatens came to Iowa pretty much completely developed. White is still growing into his frame and game. Way, way, more upside.

Yeah Gatens had little upside....The fact that he is our #1 is a problem...as Jon said Matt should be a roleplayer and it's not his fault. He was never suited to be option 1A

Wouldn't that be something if Aaron White had a Gordon Hayword type impact? He was a difference maker for Butler with his skill set and size. (enthusiasm curbed; just dreaming)

No, unless we bring in a Jared Sullinger type, Iowa will be below average again next season. No freshman is going to make Iowa a totally different team. He can make them a slightly beter team. He can be a good building block. But no one is going to turn a 3 win team into a 10 win team. Check your expectations, because all freshmen have trouble adjusting.

I hope you are right, but I get nervous when fans start hyping a recruit, who might be underrated,or whose stock is rising, but still has not even dented a single top 150 list. I say maybe we should see him play vs college players in PTL before we start expecting him to be way,way better than all-frosh team Gatens. Having more upside implies it could take him longer to reach his potential than Gatens, who as you say, came fully mature...so Aaron might be more Marble his frosh year than Gatens. Just my own cautionary mentality...I hope he is great, obviously.

Actually he said if we bring in 3 recruits White, guard, rebounder. He also said in another thread he wants the other two to be good enough to start. If we get that good of recruits then those three combined would be a totally different team.

I hope he's a Gordon Heyward-type, I really do. But I'm not getting my hopes up. I heard May was like Dan Marjerle (not happening), Marble Jr. was comparable to Reggie Miller(could be a good player in the end but not that good), and A. Tucker was the next Stephon Curry(not even close).

I think you're talking to the wrong people if that's what you're hearing.

Just ignore the voices in your head, they aren't real.

Thank you debbie downer.

Basabe has made Iowa a totally different team. He's an offensive presence inside. He's a rebounding presence inside. It isn't all about immediate wins. He provides optimism for the future. White could bring some skills we desperately need and optimism for the future.

I have little doubt that the play of Basabe and Cartwright this year has increased expectations for next season and beyond. Their play will help recruiting...especially in NY and CA.

As a freshman Ricky Davis made Iowa a totally differrent team. As a freshman Roy Marble made Iowa a totally different team. As a freshman Michael Payne made Iowa a totally different team. I think I've made my point.

I think we have alternate definitions of "different team". You define it as "Plays a different style of basketball", whereas my comments were more along the lines of "We will win more games".

By my definition, Basabe has not made us a different team, but by yours he does.

I think I made my point.

You made no point at all. You honestly think we would have 10 wins without Basabe? You don't think we will win more games with White and Ogelsby...two quality recruits. Your response to my post in the other thread at least had some valid content. Here you're just trying to be right with disregard to what's actually happened.

I guess it's all opinion. I'm of the opinion we would not have won 10 games without Basabe. You think we would have won 10 games without Basabe. This is according to your definition above not mine.

Basabe has been worth 4 wins this season. I'm not sure who would have replaced him on the roster had he stayed with Siena, but I'm not sure it would have been a 4 win guy. (I was also a little surprised to see Cartwright as low, but I guess that's a product of his poor shooting percentage and turnover rate)

Melsahn Basabe 4.0
Jarryd Cole 2.6
Matt Gatens 2.1
Eric May 1.4
Andrew Brommer 1.1
Zach McCabe 0.8
Bryce Cartwright JR 0.7
Devon Archie 0.5
Jordan Stoermer 0.3
Roy Devyn Marble 0.3
Branden Stubbs 0.2
T.J. Sayre 0.1
Cully Payne 0.0
Cody Cox -0.1
