Aaron White 1st Hand Observation

Bryce Cartwright had how many offers? Melsahn Basabe? Are they mid-major prospects, too?

Yes

Were either of them major impact players? No

Cartwright had a nice year, but lets not forget he's a junior, not a freshman.

Melsahn had his moments, but he also had moments where he disappeared and was a non factor.

He's not a major impact prospect

He's going to need two or three years to develop, like a mid major prospect.

Define "develop". Does someone that needs to develop get playing time? If so, how is a developing player any different than any other player that is getting better as they go?

Let's bet on that.

We can donate money to the winner's charity of choice, or we can bet where the loser leaves the board.

I am fine with either.

Some parameters, we need to define major contributor, say 8 ppg- which would match Cole's senior numbers, does that sound fair?

You said two or three years, I will be generous and give you the benefit of the doubt and make it a two year limit.

So, if Aaron White doesn't average 8ppg-what JC did as a senior- by his sophomore season, I will donate $25 to the charity of your choice, or I will leave this message board.

Will you do the same if White doesn't meet that benchmark. And if you won't put your money where your mouth is, will you at least STFU?

YES IT DOES!

Are you high?

What a dumb thing to say...

So, if Austin Rivers has an offer from UNI, he is a mid-major player?

Are you serious?

Cezar G. was a mid-major player by your definition, as he had offers from mid-major schools, to go along with high-majors.

Although in your defense stat, McCabe had the best offer list of any 2010 recruit we had, and he struggled a lot this year.

He's ranked in the top 100, as is Rivers, that gets you high major status in my book.

A second ago you said that if a player has offers from mid-major schools, it makes him a mid-major player. Now you are backing up, take my bet, the MDA could use the money.

Don't be a *****, I'll put it in my signature.

Put your money where your mouth is, or shut your mouth.

It's simple.

No, I stand by what I said.

A kid with mid major offers is a mid major prospect. Sure there could be an Iowa or NW thrown in there, but the majority of the offers were mid major offers.

A kid like Austin Rivers has a majority of high major offers.

Its pretty simple to understand, but I realize you're in denial and think Iowa is recruiting kids that nobody knows about and they're all just diamonds in the rough.

You're right, your argument is pretty simple to understand. If a recruit isn't a one-and-done caliber player, then he's not a high major prospect. Seriously, you might as well find someone else to root for, because it's going to be a LONG time before we ever start getting players like that.

Gordon Hayward and Shelvin Mack neither one had major programs knocking down their doors. Hayward was a top 10 pick, and Mack seems likely to follow in those footsteps. But yeah, they couldn't hack it in the Big 10

He has an offer from Iowa, a tournament team in Temple, and NIT team's Northwestern, and Boston College. This is a good player with good offers.

Also, if you don't think Basabe was an impact freshman, I don't know what to say.

If you do stand by what you say, accept the bet, and if you are right, I'll give 25 bucks to some charity that would certainly appreciate it.

We definitely will know in two or three years whether Fran has the Midas touch or if Cartwright and Basabe were just flukes. I like the development I seen in all of the players this past season. My vote is "no fluke" and I believe by Fran's third or fourth year we will see the type of recruiting success that has not been seen in Iowa City since King George was here.

I am confident that it's no fluke. He was also VERY close to landing Jimmer when he was at Sienna, and Kenny Hasbrouk (sp?) made it to the NBA from Sienna. He didn't stick, but he could play some ball at the college level. Fran has got an eye for talent, and until he just totally whiffs on a few guys, I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt.

Within a few months, Fran turned Brommer and Archie into players that had a major impact in the victory over Purdue to end the season. That still blows my mind.

I very much doubt that a kid Fran handpicks to play forward in his system won't have a significant impact in the first year on a team with little front court depth.
