Re: Aaron Fuller foul - end of regulation

Are we talking about the same play? Maybe I am confused.

The one I am talking about is when Gatens was on the baseline, Harris went up Gatens stayed on the ground, and then May (or Fuller, can't remember) came up and swatted it out of bounds.
Might be a different one. My memory and judgment are both going.

Re: Aaron Fuller foul - end of regulation

Before the game started and I saw Valentine/Hightower were working it I knew we had a slim chance to win if it was close. Those two have screwed us more than anyone since Jim Bain.

Wow, just wow. You do realize that every fan base thinks this way right? Wait, never mind I know you don't understand this.

When you consider that Iowa lost in the finals of the BTT in 02 to a OSU team led by Boban Savovic, who was later found to be getting money from boosters, having papers written by a tutor and was schtumping that boosters wife, and OSU did have to forfeit all their wins....Iowa should have won their 8th straight BTT game that day...and won a second straight BTT with 4 wins in 4 days. Then you add the Tucker miracle shot...now I know it was a bit of a long shot for Iowa to have beaten the Illini in the final...but concievably, Iowa could have won 4 BTT titles in 6 years...damn!!

I will forever love the BTT, I admit, that weekend has become my favorite of the season with all the great games in the Big East,ACC,Big 12,SEC and Big Ten tournys...wall to wall great matchups for 4-5 days....how can you beat it?

Re: Aaron Fuller foul - end of regulation

Another heartbreaker was the collapse against Missouri in that championship game of a preseason tourney in 01 I believe.

This was my first thought, and definitely gets my vote. I believe Missouri was ranked really high and we'd played them a few times recently (and Quinn Snyder was still there, which is always a good reason to want a win). I think we were up by like 11 with a minute left or something. Missouri was even trying to foul and the refs didn't call anything. Of course I've tried to consciously avoid thinking about that game ever since, so my memory may be a little skewed. I don't think I've ever been so angry as I was that day---Northwestern St. just seemed immediately depressing, especially since it felt inevitable.

That Missouri game was one that gives referrees a bad name. It was an absolute mugging with nothing being called against Missouri in that final minute, and then I remember Glen Worley getting called for a foul against a 3-point shot in the final seconds, when he was doing nothing but standing there with his arms straight up. Then all of the sudden the refs decide to go ticky-tack. My parents said they were watching the Missouri-Alabama game the night before in that tournament, and it was basically the same thing where Missouri got away with murder en-route to an "miraculous" comeback. The refs in that tournament clearly had some sort of agenda.

Oh how sweet it was to have the rematch against Missouri a couple weeks later and blow them out on their own court.

Mizzou must pay off officials because Eddy Hightower definitely had some coin on the Tigers last night against Texas. Texas got called for an intentional foul that was one of the worst ive ever seen. Ive watched Mizzou at home a few times this year and they are a great example of how a raucous crowd can really effect the officials, especially bad ones

13 seconds were left and we had a three point lead. I don't remember if the foul situation had Mich in the one and one or if they were in the bonus.

My point is why did we not put moderate pressure on them when they brought the ball up the court, maybe using 2 to 5 seconds, and when they got the ball over the half court line, foul them. Even if they made both free throws I surely think we would have been in a better position to win, either by one point or they probably would have fouled us. More time goes off the clock, we make one or both free throws and win. Even if we had missed the free throw, there wouldn't be very much left time on the clock.

After Michigan made their free throws, I supose Michigan could have stolen the ball and scored or we could have turned it over and Mich scored and they still would have won. But, to me, we just gave them a very good opportunity to get the basket and tie the game.

This game was ours and oh so painful to watch at the end.
