Personal Story:
My best friend (a year older) was a manager for the Football team that year. (sweaty jock duty but he loved it). He got me tickets in the front row of the North End zone, right behind the goal posts.
As a high school senior, I was undecided between a few smaller colleges and IOWA. After experiencing that game, and seeing the goal posts torn down, literally right in front of me... I decided that day, it was The University of Iowa for me.
I also dumped my clone-fan girlfriend on the way home from the game. It was a great day!
#61 Doug Benschoter was about 5-6 years ahead of me in high school....Good old W-SR. John Lazar was a horse....I think he went to North Tama and played basketball as well....Great game, and wow, did you see all the emotion....classic stuff....I hope our kids respond like that on Saturday...
If we ever get back to the point where beating ISU is a moment worthy of tearing down the goalposts I will quit being a fan.
***Unless it's at their place. Tearing down opposing teams goalposts is hilarious***
You're still a Tavernhok.
Didn't he play a little bit in the nfl too?Lazar was from South Tama
As I was watching some of this yesterday, it hit me like a ton of bricks at how much the culture has changed since then. I think it's changed mostly for the worse since 77.
That sign today would probably read, "Hi federal government, please send me my government check."Remember the students makings signs out of sheets. Popular one "Hi Mom and Dad, Send Money!"
