64 yards

The wrong RBs are getting most of the carries. The best RB was the one who did NOT fumble on our last 2 drives
Agree100%. Physically, Young resembles the type of back that historically has had success at Iowa. Strong, power runner a la Greene, Coker, and Weismann. We’re set up for that type of bruising runner, so why isn’t he the featured back?

....and the more the other ones get the ball the more they look like the wrong ones.

People bit h about guys fumbling getting pulled. We saw why yesterday. Last two series, do or die, and guys can't hold onto the ball. I sure as hell wouldn't put it in their hands again in that situation

The problem is the offensive coaching staff and head coach doesn't see the problem. They see it as working on the little things. It is the definition of insanity at its best. Their zone blocking scheme that they are trying to employ has not been successful for a few years especially with the lineman skill set they currently have and the backs they currently have. This year is the case where they need to throw the ball to open the run game up the o-line is much better at protecting the passer than blocking the run.

I stated it in another post I just don't understand the inconsistency in the play calling and the aggressiveness from one game to the next. Some games it really seems like they have their shit together then other games it is just all out of wack. There is no reason why we do the things we do on some plays and then we have successful plays and never go back to them. Like Hayden said you need to scratch where it itches and this offensive coaching staff is absolutely terrible at doing that on a game to game basis. The one thing they need to get rid of out of the play book for sure are the damn reverses and jet sweeps. Might as well have the QB Take a knee and it would be more successful

I think the RB's are just fine. We have three that are all different types of backs. No doubt the injury bug has hampered IKM. There were no holes on Saturday and Iowa kept trying to run outside. That's on the line and play calling. The RB's have shown they can make things happen when they have lanes to run it.

Saturday was about as pathetic a game in terms of play calling that I've seen since Greg Davis. That horizontal passing crap made a return. Stanley didn't help when he missed some open guys but why was Iowa not taking deep shots when Northwestern's best d-back was out? Iowa just played a terrible and boring game on offense. You can't score more than 10 points at home then you have some issues.

I've never been a fan of Brian Ferentz as the OC. That hire was incredibly dumb because he isn't going to get fired or stripped of his duties because his Dad is the head coach.

Not real happy with the staff right now at all. Defense is OK for the most part but special teams and the offense is a disaster. Part of that is execution and part of that is coaching. The sad part is we have the longest tenured coach in Division I and these issues are not anything new.

Also why in the hell was Iowa running the ball on that last drive? I'm not even saying that because of the fumble but with the clock situation you needed 10 yards on that play for it even to be effective, and then have to get set to run another play. Seemed really stupid to be doing that when you needed a TD in order to win.

We had like 2:30 left in the game to go 90 yards, and Brian is calling running plays and passes behind the line of scrimmage. Some people still think he's the goods. Lol

I wonder if Polasek is a square peg in a round hole. His style of coaching linemen does not jive with how Ferentz wants it taught.

I think it does. I think that North Dakota St. runs a similar pro-style offense. But, the big difference is that their head coach or coaches don't handcuff their players.

In a roundabout way, the jet-sweeps and reverse work. Prime example: two years ago against Illinois, Wadley in the slot, LD at RB. Fake jet-sweep to Wadley, pitch to LD who house it from about 30 yards. Absolute gold...

...and they never. used . it. again!

The play to IKM looked like a good gain was in the works. Still, it makes one wonder why the run play in the first place.

Seriously, during the PSU game, everyone in the bar was yelling, "Just run it here! Just run it!" So, of course, the resulting INT.

Saturday I was yelling, "Go downfield, go downfield!". We may have, but it happened while I was amy dog's training class...

tk, I don't think BF is that bad, but the flashback to the GD horizontal pass game was perplexing. Why are they using Easley and Groeneweg in that? I can't believe ISM would be LESS effective. I also know B Smith was out, but agin, that shouldn't shut down our vertical pass game/attempts to go downfield.

Fun fact:
4 quarters of rushing in our last game is tied at 64 friggin yards with a Matt Prater 64 yard field goal!!!
An entire game of rushing tied in yards with one kick through the uprights!!!

The thing with that play is they had two guys that could do something with the ball. I am sorry but outside of the kick returns ISM is not a very good ball carrier in the open field and I do not think he runs very good routes. He is terrible at makings guys miss and the jet sweep the last game was given to a guy that had not touched the ball all season in a game. It was a wasted play on a drive where we could have taken control of the game. Lots of other plays you could use in that situation,

I won't be surprised if Iowa has a new OLine coach next year.......I don't be surprised if no change is made as well

Would be interesting to read from someone with experience that has watched detailed film on our run game as to what has hindered it.

No respect for pass game
Bad O line blocking
Bad reads by RBs
Slow reads by RBs
Slow RBs
Shitty play call
Bad scheme
