64 yards

Eno Benjamin would have been better than any of these guys. I said it.

However to be fair, this is the softest offensive line I’ve seen play D1 football. No holes. Their best push is when they held northwestern defense at the line of scrimmage. Hard for any running back to do much with that.

You never see Tristan Wirfs really mentioned as outstanding tackle. Do they do the PFF grades for O Linemen? Have any of our guys been on it? Render seems pretty good at Center.

The wrong RBs are getting most of the carries. The best RB was the one who did NOT fumble on our last 2 drives

Agree! Although we probably wouldn't say that if one of the other two didn't fumble. I assume Sargent wasn't in on that last drive because he fumbled the previous drive. Do we do that with any other position than RB? I mean if a QB throws a lame ass pick, why don't they bench him for a series?

The problem is the offensive coaching staff and head coach doesn't see the problem. They see it as working on the little things. It is the definition of insanity at its best. Their zone blocking scheme that they are trying to employ has not been successful for a few years especially with the lineman skill set they currently have and the backs they currently have. This year is the case where they need to throw the ball to open the run game up the o-line is much better at protecting the passer than blocking the run.

I stated it in another post I just don't understand the inconsistency in the play calling and the aggressiveness from one game to the next. Some games it really seems like they have their shit together then other games it is just all out of wack. There is no reason why we do the things we do on some plays and then we have successful plays and never go back to them. Like Hayden said you need to scratch where it itches and this offensive coaching staff is absolutely terrible at doing that on a game to game basis. The one thing they need to get rid of out of the play book for sure are the damn reverses and jet sweeps. Might as well have the QB Take a knee and it would be more successful

Well we know it would have been a lot better if Wadley was still back there, but that was him doing most of that.

Drops mic.
I don't know what to say. I don't even know where to begin.
I would suggest starting with how many times has Iowa (even in years our D is very stout) held anyone, even a hs team in non cons to under 70 yards rushing?
That should be pretty telling about how bad our run game is.
You can't win like that.
kind of like the Wisky game last year. Amazing how much these coaches get paid, produce this type of football all the time and get to keep their jobs

The thing with that play is they had two guys that could do something with the ball. I am sorry but outside of the kick returns ISM is not a very good ball carrier in the open field and I do not think he runs very good routes. He is terrible at makings guys miss and the jet sweep the last game was given to a guy that had not touched the ball all season in a game. It was a wasted play on a drive where we could have taken control of the game. Lots of other plays you could use in that situation,

I get it. My point is that ghost-motion is never used by this staff. Half the desired of the jet-sweep is to get defense flowing a certain way, then go the other. But as they tend to anticipate it when we "show" it, it might just be thought to "show" it, but run something else off it. ANYthing else.

Would be interesting to read from someone with experience that has watched detailed film on our run game as to what has hindered it.

No respect for pass game
Bad O line blocking
Bad reads by RBs
Slow reads by RBs
Slow RBs
Shitty play call
Bad scheme

I can't speak for every game, but last game, our horizontal pass game didn't exactly open the box. I don't think our RBs are slow. But they also aren't Wadley, or even Canzeri or Daniels. ALL those guys had "fast feet" at/near the point of contact. The current crop doesn't seem to anticipate where they need to go at "critical mass" time.

I'm not against benching a guy after a fumble. Nor am I against putting a second QB in at various times. It never hurts to give a guy a chance to see things from a more objective angle.

Well, you don't bench a QB who has thrown for 250 yards then throws a int.
You don't bench a rb who is getting it done but then fumbles.
You don't bench anyone for one bad play.

You bench them when they are not getting it done.
Which is pretty much the whole team save for a few.

Like I said, I'm not against it. Neither do I "demand" it. Depends on the situation...
