and the Peter Jok legend continues to grow. i'm going to hold out on any expectations for him till the season actually starts, but the kid is showing that he can shoot, if nothing else.

i bet these games are fun to watch. any idea on if there is any defense being played?

Good to see the big numbers, but they are as expected in the PTL.

Does anyone know if there is any video of these games floating around like there was last year?

Very little defense resembling what you will see this winter, however, these are still high-level players, so it's not like Field House pick-up. As you implied, ya still gotta make 'em when you're open to shoot 'em -- something that rarely happened on a consistent basis last winter.

While the PJ stats are fun, it's right to keep them in perspective. I'm find it just as interesting that JO continues to nurse injury while PJ passes him by.

This is stupid unless you know the severity of JO's injury.

Why on earth would he rush back to play in the PTL if his hand is injured, especially if it his shooting hand?

I would of been making fun of JO for missing time too, but this winter I cracked my index finger on my shooting hand. Even shooting a layup hurt for a few weeks and now 4 months later it is starting to feel like I can shoot a ball again.

The only thing there that gives me pause, is that what's open in the PTL probably won't be as open in the Big Ten. Defenders will close out faster, etc. So I'm holding judgement until I see him play in real games, although I admit that I'm cautiously optimistic.

I was glad to see woody throwing down a couple in the highlights they showed on the news last night. I know it is ptl, but i think woody duplicated his total dunks for last season in a single game.

I didn't think I would ever hear about Mike Gesell taking 35 shots in a game! Maybe Fran told him to shoot as often as he could out there, it certainly doesn't help that there isn't really another scorer on his team. It looks like he takes that mid-range jumper all the time, I'm glad he is working to improve it.

Jok has been making shots, which is very exciting. Having a guy like that who can come in and put up points would be so huge for this team. That seems to be what this team was missing last year was an efficient scorer!

I know, temper expectations etc.

Mike scored 35 points. He didn't take 35 shots.

In watching some PTL highlights I don't pay any attention to the opponents. What gets me excited when I see Jok is he is in total control, can dribble left and still see the whole floor and every motion is effortless. Efficient is the word that comes to mind when I see him play.

He is going to have a huge impact this season.

nailed it with efficient sportstalent -- you can see he's going at 3/5 speed. he's just going on skill and court vision in the ptl. get a year of college conditioning in him, another year for the knee to get the full strength back (I had my patellar tendon cut away from the tibia, moved over a few mm to change the way the knee tracked, and then stamped back in with a steel staple when I was 17, and it took about two years to get my vert and outfield range back), and look out. jok has some skillset.

anyone notice how quickly he covered some floor when he accelerated to get back on d in that clip? there's some explosiveness, he just isn't in condition to use it, and no need to use it in the ptl as long as he can have 10 for 15 nights....

"This is stupid..."

Why am I not surprised by your response? Do you live life on the defensive, thinking every comment is an attack on you or a player?

My comment on JO in no way implied anything about his toughness, character nor questioned the legitimacy of his injury. It was merely an observation that, due to injury, he is losing ground to PJ, when many already felt he would be squeezed out by him when healthy.

You really need to take off your Hawkeye crusader cape (or at least take a break from the 24-7 jihadic battles with Commanche and OoTH) to regain a bit of perspective.

I think you may be confuzed. I dont remember the last time I debated with Freed or OoTH. There are several other posters who go back and forth with those guys much more often than myself. I have on a couple occasions gotten into arguments with Freed but dont ever remember having anything other than friendly banter with OoTH and I think he would agree.

What is so "interesting" about JO sitting out with an injury while the PTL is going on? That is what your previous post said. It was not a comment merely about him losing ground. Also, the day someone loses playing time because of PTL performances is the day that Todd Lickliter gets a statue outside CHA.

"Hawkeye fans, get ready for the Jokularity to start. This diaper-dandy is heading for freshman of the year in the Big Ten baby"
