6/30 PTL Stats

I think you may be confuzed. I dont remember the last time I debated with Freed or OoTH. There are several other posters who go back and forth with those guys much more often than myself. I have on a couple occasions gotten into arguments with Freed but dont ever remember having anything other than friendly banter with OoTH and I think he would agree.

What is so "interesting" about JO sitting out with an injury while the PTL is going on? That is what your previous post said. It was not a comment merely about him losing ground. Also, the day someone loses playing time because of PTL performances is the day that Todd Lickliter gets a statue outside CHA.

I don't think players will lose minutes because of PTL performance, but I would love to see that statue. Who's with me?

nailed it with efficient sportstalent -- you can see he's going at 3/5 speed. he's just going on skill and court vision in the ptl. get a year of college conditioning in him, another year for the knee to get the full strength back (I had my patellar tendon cut away from the tibia, moved over a few mm to change the way the knee tracked, and then stamped back in with a steel staple when I was 17, and it took about two years to get my vert and outfield range back), and look out. jok has some skillset.

anyone notice how quickly he covered some floor when he accelerated to get back on d in that clip? there's some explosiveness, he just isn't in condition to use it, and no need to use it in the ptl as long as he can have 10 for 15 nights....

Something I learned when I watched Jess Settles play my HS back in the day when I watch players of that caliber.

Just watch how "hard" they have to work in all situations. You can see that they are just so much better it isn't even funny, but see how they go after a loose ball on a break away or blow past their man when they have an open lane.

I kept that in mind when I went and watched Clemmons/Valentine last year. They are just in a different speed when they want to be. However, how well a freshman transitions into college is that they have to figure out that they have to be in that extra from day one and every minute, or they look silly. Jok will figure that out, he has a lot to prove given his injury history.

My guess is that it is Randy Larson who has been a PTL tool for multiple decades. Emperor of all jock sniffers.

Randy Larson is a good guy and owns and operates some great restaurants.

He STARTED the PTL league.

Your comments are bush league

What I like about Jok's game is how well he squares up to the basket on all of his shots. Whether he is coming off of a screen, a floater, a step back jumper, etc. He makes it look like he's been doing it since birth. You throw him in our line up with White, Marble, Gesell, Woodbury, Basabe or Uthoff and he won't be the focal point of any defense we face. I could easily see him scoring in low double figures, in a limited role.

I disagree that I would agree with you. So there.

Yeah I dont think we have really mixed it up before.

I love Jok's potential, but it is extremely difficult for anyone to score in double figures if they are playing a limited role. He'll be a starter soon, but I don't see it happening this year unless Gesell or Marble get injured.

agreed. while he might end up with some decent scoring games (in the teens, i mean), i'd expect those to be the exception and not the rule.

If Ogelsby would have hit some shots, he could have been in double figures. Keep in mind that Jok will have the green light to shoot 3s. He makes 2 or 3 per game and a jumper or two. It doesn't take much to get to 10 points.

but, even assuming he shoots a ridiculous percentage, that would mean he is shooting around 8-10 shots per game, and now way does Fran want that.

Making 2 or 3 threes per game (let's say 2.5) and a jumper or two (let's say 1.5) adds up to 4 made shots per game. Marble, the team's leader in minutes per game and points per game, made 4.75 shots per game. White, the only other player to score double figures, made 3.68 shots per game. You really think Jok's going to make 4 shots per game coming off the bench? The sixth most minutes per game last year was Clemmons at 16.8. If you think Jok is good enough to score 10 ppg in a "limited role" which I assume you would define as a sixth man with comparable minutes to Clemmons, you're saying Jok is also good enough to score close to 20 ppg playing starter minutes, as a freshman.

I just want to let that sink in so you see how crazy that sounds.

I will settle for someone who can just hit the wide open 3. Saw too many of those clanking off the rim last season.

Well nobody on Iowas team could do that last years. However Basabe was clutch from about the free throw line so maybe he can move back a tad.

Joking aside the 3 point shooting was a team thing last year. I would be shocked if you saw MG, Jok, RDM and ZM all shooting well from the 3 point line and Olgesthree is not shooting well.

Looking back at this, the real news is Meyer finding a pulse. We need him to get beyond the Brommer track by his sophomore season. He doesn't have to be all-B1G, but he will need to provide strong bench minutes without a massive drop-off from the guy he is replacing.

While it is impossible to make a direct one-to-one translation from PTL to NCAA, there has never been a player who failed to pretty much dominate PTL who then was an effective B1G player.

You forgot about free throws. It is very possible that Jok will be the best shooter on the team next year. If that's the case then Fran will want him shooting close to that many shots a game. 6 shots a game plus a few free throws and he will be close to 10 points a game. My guess is he's closer to 6 points a game tho.

So true. Dominating the PTL doesn't mean you will dominate the big 10 but sucking in the PTL definitely means you will not do well in the big 10.

but i doubt he'll be getting to the line much. you have to be a driver/slasher to get to the line, so 3pt shooters generally don't shoot that many FT's. this is where White is money. even if he has an off game shooting, he still gets to the line a ton. but yes, Jok and Gesell are definitely our best FT shooters.

I think he will be more then just a 3 point shooter. But maybe not as a freshman which is what we are talking about so point taken.

But I have a feeling he will end up more of a slasher then Marble.
