2024 College Football Survival Pool

Well Fabfew I guess we are co-champs. Congrats to you!

That was a crazy win but BYU’s day is coming. That was a now 4-5 Utah team that it took a miraculous finish to win. Wait until BYU plays a real team if they get to the playoffs.

Well that’s a three-peat for me and will likely be my last as I will likely sit next season out.

I would overwhelmingly give up at three of those three years just to see Iowa get to the playoffs. With the losses in players after this year it won’t be next season that Iowa gets to the playoffs and the Iowa schedules only get tougher moving forward.

Oh I will be following the games next season because that’s what Iowa fans do, but I have no unrealistic expectations for next year.

It’s going to take our new offensive coordinator time to rebuild and repair the offense that Brian left in ashes. I still appreciate Brian’s efforts as a Iowa player, but he was in over his head as Iowa’s OC.

Back-to-back-to-back!! Incredible, @BigD !

And welcome to the Survivors Club, @FabFew ! You've come so close many times.

A wacky year, with some big boys going down early and unexpected teams still undefeated. Thanks for joining - Go Hawks!

THE SHEET: https://bit.ly/3DtC4Nn

It has a very wacky year. I thought I wa toast going toward the last half of the year. My three favorites teams that I thought could get to the end was Ohio State, Oregon, and Texas. I also had Alabama on that list but Alabama had indicators that gave me pause about them.

I was also a little skeptical about Texas since it’s been a while since they went undefeated in a season.

I guess it’s a lot more challenging to be a perineal power house anymore. When In was in my teens it was Alabam, Texas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Ohio State, Michigan, and Notre Dame.

Year in and year out those boys were always battling each other for the Mythical National Championship. USC was also pretty consistent back then also. Occasionally UCLA would have a great team as would Penn State.

I have no delusions about Iowa ever getting there, but you have to have hope for your life long college football team. If you get to the point where you feel there is no chance then if becomes just a secondary entertainment thingy. I am usually pretty busy with my wife and kids so taking several hours on Saturdays in the fall to cheer on a team is a significant sacrifice of time.

I totally understand what Fryowa is talking about when involving your family in these types of events. It’s really enjoyable just attending or watching the games at home with your family. Even if you lose it memories to cherish years later.

I know Iowa’s chances are stacked against them, but there have been years when things have looked like at least a long shot, but at least a possibility.

It can be frustrating to go through those seasons and end up having it be actually a little worse than the norm. This year would be one of those seasons.

If I seemed short with anyone I apologize as I am in my sixties now and I realize I don’t have forever to spend on that one special year where it all comes together.

I remember at age five sitting with my dad watching a 19 inch black and white tv cheering on the Hawkeyes. Following the Hawkeyes was as much a part of my life as playing sports in the neighborhood with friends in the alleyways in small towns in Iowa. It’s what everyone did back then.

Occasionally tempers would fly and a couple of kids would go home with bloody noses, but it was all good and you would be back at it again in a few days.

Well it is a complete honor to finally make it to the finish line with the legendary BigD. Congrats back at you! Thanks for always putting this together Zamboni08 your efforts are appreciated. The 12 team playoffs are going to be wide-open for anyone of the teams that make it to win. Should be interesting and I look forward to watching the games. Cheers fellas!!
