2019 Tyreke Locure

Nick Reid isn't eligible for the Mr. Iowa Basketball award. :)

Central City is 1A lol.

I don't care what level, scoring 76 in a game is ridiculous.

The same night, Dowling's Caitlin Clark (as high as the #4 2020 recruit nationally by some services) scored 60 (on 28 shots!). She was 13/17 from 3-point range.

Had the other team ever heard of a box and one?:D

If your stats are correct I have him as making only two three point FG's, making his 76 points even more impressive.

I guess what they were doing was working for much of the night, Reid needed a 3 at the end of regulation to send it to OT (and you are right, that was 1 of only 2 3FG he made).

Is Lisa recruiting her I hope??

So, faster pace results in lower percentages and slower pace results in higher percentages. Explains why PMac's percentages are higher; what it doesn't explain is why a 6'8" forward only averages 7.5 rebounds when his competition is typically 5'10 to 6'4. Part of it is strength; part of it is effort for whatever reason.

I've actually been a lot more impressed with DJ's passing skills. He's made a lot of improvement since last season. I'm not just talking about his assist numbers either. The video I've seen of him is a night/day difference. His handles have improved significantly as well.

Regardless, people are going to keep this thread alive by bashing Tyreke, but he's going to win Mr. Iowa barring injury or some other unfortunate reason.

Just checked rosters in the conference that PMac plays in. EVERY SINGLE ONE has multiple players 6'4" or taller. Here's a rundown on those players taller than 6'6" playing in that conference:
Cedar Falls (6'9" Chase Courbat getting D1 offers, 6'7" Jackson Frericks likely a TE PWO at Iowa)
CR Prairie (6'7" Kristopher Murray, 6'8" Keegan Murray, sons of former Iowa player Kenyon Murray)
CR Kennedy (6'7" Justin DeCoste, 6'7" Kaleb Schlaak)
CR Washington (No one over 6'7", but 3 listed at 6'6")
CR Xavier (6'7" Matt Jordebrek, 6'8" Jaylon Moses (soph with interest from Drake and UNI), 6'9" Kevin Nelson)
Dubuque Hempstead (No one over 6'6")
Dubuque Senior (No one over 6'6")
Dubuque Wahlert (6'9" Gavin Hamilton)
IC City High (No one over 6'6")
IC Liberty (No one over 6'6")
Linn-Mar (6'6" Hayden Passmore, 6'7" Will Zahradnik)
Waterloo East (No one over 6'6")
Waterloo West (No one over 6'6")
Western Dubuque (No one over 6'6")

So saying "his competition is typically 5'10 to 6'4" " is not accurate. Plus, one could make the same argument against TL. (As an aside, Dubuque Senior had a freshman guard who is 6'5")

And I do believe that he will win Iowa's Mr. Basketball.

Sorry bud. Mr. Basketball will either be Locure or Carton.

474 attempted shots in 19 games at 43%
211 attempted threes in 19 games at 28%
TL leads the state in attempts by a wide margin. Gotta get shots up.

Thanks for posting that. Locure also leads the state in points and steals. He's 2nd in assists right now. He will pass Jeff Horner next game for 2nd place in 4A career points behind Joe Weiskamp. At that point, he'll be 1st in career steals, 2nd in career points, and 2nd in career assists. Quite a high school career this little guy has had.

Look how fun this team is:

What does he need to do to pass Wieskamp in points?

It's gonna be awfully difficult for him to pass Joe. He needs 205 more points. 2 games left in the season. Even if they play 2 games in the state tourney, that's 6 more games total. He'd need to average 34.33 points to pass him. After the screw job North received in Ankeny (vs Johnston) last year in the playoffs, I wouldn't even count on them making state. They should make it though, and they did beat IC West in a scrimmage just before the season started, so we'll see how it plays out.

I assume you are rooting for him to pass Joe?

Yikes, that isn't very good.

Downright Iversonian. The stats from his MVP season:

G MP FG FGA FG% 3P 3PA 3P% 2P 2PA 2P% eFG% FT FTA FT%
71 42.0 10.7 25.5 .420 1.4 4.3 .320 9.4 21.2 .441 .447 8.2 10.1 .814

ORB DRB TRB AST STL BLK TOV PF PTS
0.7 3.1 3.8 4.6 2.5 0.3 3.3 2.1 31.1

Poor efficiency and high usage can still have great value, depending upon what the other options are. Drawing defensive attention and getting shots up on the rim creates offensive rebounding opportunities, and it is certainly far better than a turnover. If there are not other players on the floor that can get the shots up, then you let the low-efficiency guy jack.

If you have other options that ARE more efficient that can be using some of those possessions, then you should probably be more discriminating.

I think Iverson was a fascinating player. Prodigious talent, yet complete inability (or unwillingness) to adapt his game in any way. He would have been constantly skewered had he played in the analytics era, yet he was certainly a player you could not take your eyes off of. Also an incredibly compelling personal story, so many virtues, so many demons/flaws, a constant battle between the two. The more I learned about him, the more I rooted for him.

Although the analytics-era would not have been kind to his late 90s through 00s game, interesting to think about what he would have been like had he grown up in an era where it was more socially acceptable to look up to and emulate players that carried themselves like CEOs (instead of that being seen as "selling out").
