2016 Recruiting Is Actually Going Worse Than 2014 and 2015?

I believe that Coach Davis has had a lot of success over his career, including a national championship as offensive coordinator. That experience can be a great asset to the Iowa Football program going forward.

About the water tower, I am not a huge advocate of having it painted. I like the look of of the stadium as it is. I would not necessarily be opposed to painting it either.

My biggest concern now in that vicinity is the preservation of the fieldhouse. There is so much history in that building, and I would like to see it be restored as a concert and secondary sports venue.

Wow, 51st now. That's about Tennessee Avenue on a Monopoly board.

My thoughts as well....... but OK I'll give credit to Morgan & staff for their ability to normally make some good in-state selections for the line. As most of us know, however, the litmus test begins with our ability to attract out of state talent......something beyond those with very limited (or no) offers from Power 5 representatives. A very strong performance (9 win minimum) on the field this year would be the best medicine for gaining serious attention from talented prospects. This year's schedule invites it.......again.

Need to get back to at least Marvin Garden's status for starters.

LOL Is billdo seriously BRAGGING about rising up to the #51 ranked national recruiting class (we are actually ranked #54, but who's counting)? He does realize that this glorious ranking puts us in the bottom 5% of BCS teams, and that there are only a total of 110 schools that have D1 football (i.e. about 50 of the 110 consist of tiny schools like Army, Old Dominion, and Louisiana Monroe and Texas-San Antonio).

Someone with such insanely low standards would make a fantastic bag boy at HyVee, and an even better Cyclone fan.

Iowa has leaped to #51 nationally in Scout's rankings: http://www.scout.com/college/iowa/a.z?s=8&p=9&c=14&yr=2016

Too early to know how we'll end up. But we know one thing for sure: iowalaw will defend his point to the death, no matter which way the facts go.

I'm not so sure he was bragging as much as pointing out that, while still not good enough, the recruiting ranking, thus far, is about the same, if not a little better than last year.

Personally, I would like to see Iowa in the high 30's, low 40's on average, so lots of work to do on the recruiting front. This is, of course, throwing out the outlier years, like when we were top 10 a couple years coming off one of the best 3 year stretches in program history (now, I would prefer a little better results than the absolute bust those classes ended up). Also, anything from about 25-40 is about a nose hair different, factoring in the subjective nature of the "stars"

After reading this, I'd have to downgrade us to St. Charles Place. We'll never be on Boardwalk with the OSUs and Alabamas of the world but at least we're not on Baltic Avenue with ISU.

Kirk's contract had a "free parking" clause regardless of performance. It entitled him to similar clauses for all of his family members.

With these new verbals, how is our ranking looking? Have we cracked the top 50?

Are we still looking worse for '16 than '15 & '14?

Right now according to 247sports we're at #38 nationally and #9 in the big ten and 2014 and 2015 we ended at #59 nationally both years and #12 in the big ten both years.

Thanks Hunz. Hopefully the verbals become signatures and we can get a few more. If we break into top 30-35, and top 6-7 in Big for the B1G, and of course limit attrition and get some development...

Lots of ifs, but it's improvement.

As of this morning we are now at #30 on 247. Moving on up.

Where's iowalaw? Pretty funny to go back and read his garbage now.

We fought the law and the... Law lost.

D!pshits like Iowalaw are annoying as ****. They spout off all the time and have no clue what is going on in recruiting. Wallace recruiting is really just getting started, and is picking up momentum fast. They have obviously redefined how they are selling Iowa football to kids, and it seems to be working. Hopefully they just keep improving on this and start bringing in better and better players.

Gotta believe the investment in the new indoor facilities is paying dividends. Very impressive facility ... Second to none in the B1G.

I'm all for getting fired up over solid commits, but expectations by hawk fans are hitting record lows this year. The numbers are the numbers. The new recruiting coordinator and the sparkling new facilities might have got a slew of commits over the past few weeks (a few of them had a couple of BCS offers), but the objective facts state that our recent recruiting has been quantity over quality.

Avg stars in 2016: 2.71
Avg stars in 2015: 2.71 (ranked 58th in the country...nearly last in conference)
Avg stars in 2014: 2.79 (ranked 59th in the country...nearly last in conference)
Avg stars in 2013: 2.81 (ranked 53rd in the country...nearly last in conference)
Avg stars in 2012: 2.96 (ranked 43rd in the country...8th in the conference)
Avg stars in 2011: 3.0 (ranked 30th in the country...4th in the conference)
Avg stars in 2010: 3.0 (ranked 42nd in the country...7th in the conference)

Based on the numbers, this is shaping up to tie last year for our worst recruiting year in the past 7 years. Any questions? Any trends noticed?

Could you go back about the last 30 years and post the avg stars and national rank? Nah, let's go back 50 years. You're gonna see the same averages and trends(with a few outliers every 10-12 years) Everyone wants better recruiting, everyone. And we all agree we should be in the middle of the B1G. I'm not sure anyone is too happy with 3 out of the past 4 years, but if you think we are going to suddenly become a perennial top 25 recruiting power, you haven't paid attention these last 100 years.

We are not going to consistently out recruit OSU, Michigan, Nebby, or Penn State, if you don't understand why, I can't help you. Yes, we should be in the Wisc, MSU range and are not, because they have been better on the field.

My expectations for recruiting is what it always has been, 30-45ish, filling the holes where needed and making up the difference with development...with an outlier 10-25 rank on occasion. The staff has been below my standards, attrition has been worse than a team like Iowa can thrive with.

But, at least recently, the recruiting has seen a spike, and that is good news, not world changing, but good news. Buck up Captain Miserable.

The thing that has struck me the most is the fact that they are closing on some of these preferred visitors while they are visiting or very shortly thereafter. That hasn't happened much in the last several years. There has been the normal praise in the past but few, if any, verbals follow unless they come much later.

I give the staff credit but we're in a process with recruiting. We still have to face the impact of the good or the bad that this season brings to actual commitments.
