I really feel like this year we will bounce back. I don't think last season sat well with the players or the coaches and we're going to play with some fire this year.
 


Personally, I think I'm anticipating the start of this year more than years in the past. I think a lof of it has to do with opening at home versus a team coming off an Orange Bowl apperance and finding out which QB will perform best. Sure beats playing Tenn Tech or E Illinois.
 


If nothing else, I want to see the physical Iowa of old. Last year we were just so soft. I want to see the D play with a mean streak. Punish receivers for catching crossing routes. Jam wideouts off the line. Swarm running backs after initial contact. D is fun to play and it's about time this team/program/fans have some fun again. Here's to lighting some teams up this year!
 


Definitely gets me in the mood for some football. Good stuff.

I'm also looking forward to the season. As many on here have mentioned, I have no idea what to expect, so I'm going to go ahead and be optimistic.

You realize that wasn't really a legit Orange Bowl appearance, right? You do realize one of the worst Hawk teams in the last dozen years beat that Orange Bowl team last year right? You do realize NIU's marquee squeaker of a win was against a team that lost to Arkansas State in a bowl, right?

Seriously, if it wasn't for a flawed polling system and a weak schedule, NiU would have been playing in the Go Daddy.com bowl. The fact that fans think NIU is an exciting game is a sign of how far things have fallen.

If you think that all games against MAC level teams are NOT challenging, and they should just be automatic wins, you might want to look at Louisiana Tech from last year. Beat Houston, Illinois, Virginia, and almost beat A&M.

The best MAC level teams usually pose challenges for good BCS teams, and can flat out be better than mediocre BCS schools. Unfortunately Iowa fits the bill as a mediocre BCS team, and NIU fits the bill as a good MAC level team. It will be a good and challenging game. It really only means Iowa is down right now, as the good MAC schools aren't automatic wins.
 


Awesome vid! It's hard to believe Iowa doesn't have one trophy from trophy games in the cases right now. We need certain players to step up & lead like Clayborn, Sanders, etc... That has been missing badly the past few years, IMO.

We did beat Minnesota last year. I know it was a terrible year but we do have Floyd in our trophy case.

What is a "legitimate" Orange Bowl appearance? NIU is obviously not great (Iowa beat them last year as Example A) but the opener is a good test for Iowa. A win over NIU points things in the right direction.

Iowa barely beat Arkansas State a few years back also and that Iowa team fared pretty well. It was during one of your 3 years up cycles you blab about all the time. Was the same polling system flawed then also? You can't have it both ways
