FOOTBALL SEASON TICKETS INCREASE $2 PER GAME FOR GENERAL PUBLIC
AND UI FACULTY AND STAFF, NO SEASON TICKET PRICE INCREASE FOR UI STUDENTS

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The cost for tickets to home games of the University of Iowa football team will increase $2 per game for the general public and UI faculty and staff in 2012, the UI Athletics Department announced Thursday.

The increase will move the cost of a season ticket purchased by a member of the general public for the seven home games of the 2012 UI football team to $388 each. The cost for a season ticket purchased by a member of the UI faculty and staff will move to $318 each.

There will be no increase in the cost of a UI student season ticket, however, UI students will have the choice of purchasing a 7-game season ticket at $175 or a 6-game season ticket at $150. The 6-game season ticket will not include a ticket to the Hawkeyes’ game against Nebraska scheduled for Friday, Nov. 23 – the day after Thanksgiving when classes at the UI are not in session.

If available, single game tickets will be sold at the following prices:

Iowa State (Sept. 8) $70
Northern Iowa (Sept. 15) $60
Central Michigan (Sept. 22) $55
Minnesota (Sept. 29) $65
Penn State (Oct. 20) $65
Purdue (Nov. 10) $65
Nebraska (Nov. 23) $70

The UI Athletics Department has also designated Iowa’s games against Northern Iowa and Central Michigan as games where a limited number of $25 tickets intended for use by boys and girls age 18 and younger will be available for purchase.

Fans of the Iowa football team that purchased season tickets for the 2011 season will receive season ticket renewal information from the UI Athletics Ticket Office via email later this month. The renewal process will begin in early March. If available, single-game ticket sales will begin in late June or early July.

As always, season ticket customers will have the first opportunity to purchase away game tickets. This year that schedule of games includes the Hawkeyes’ 2012 season opener against Northern Illinois in addition to games against Big Ten Conference rivals Michigan State (Oct. 13), Northwestern (Oct. 27), Indiana (Nov. 3) and Michigan (Nov. 17).

The UI sold out all seven of its home games in 2012 and has reached sellout status at 54 of its last 56 games played at historic Kinnick Stadium.

So the team on the field underachieves for 2 straight years, and now the University gets nearly $1 million in extra revenue from ticket sales? Awesome.

Don't forget, we added a third cupcake game rather than our kind of standard mediocre BCS non-con game. 4 cupcakes and 2 or 3 conference wins is what kept Glen Mason chugging away at Minnesota with his 6-6 or 7-5 records all those years. The 'Cats also went up $2 a game in 2012, but they have 3 BCS non-con games (2 at home) and they signed longer term deals with Notre Dame and Stanford because they ain't afraid to play BCS teams.

It is awesome! Why wouldn't you be happy that our athletic department is bringing in more revenue to help support Hawkeye athletics??

If you think about it the market demand for the Nebraska game makes the overall package worth at least that much more than a regular schedule based on demand. If the demand wasn't there they couldn't charge more.

Does it suck they raise prices after a mediocre season? Yes. Will Kinnick still be full on Saturday's next fall? Yes. As long as they keep winning. A couple of more just above .500 seasons and we might see if things change.

When do tickets go on sale? I just missed the deadline last year, but won't make the same mistake twice.

Anybody know how much you have to donate in order to get season tickets? Or does donating just get you better seats?

Kinnick wasn't full for the Purdue game the week after we beat Penn State in 2008. Y'all missed some sick runs by Shonn Greene.

Can't the person voice his two cents without the lame "well, don't go," or "we don't need you as a fan anyway" type comment?

If someone wants to complain about spending an extra $14 dollars a ticket per season, maybe that someone shouldn't have been spending that kind of money on tickets to begin with.

You know when Iowa should lower ticket prices? When there aren't people willing to buy the tickets at the prices they offer.

Exactly

I will continue to get my tickets no matter how much they cost. The way it looks BBall could go up in the next few years too.
