Hawkeyes Resemble Bullies of Past

Good write up.

Iowa. State wasn’t ranked when they beat us, so the fact that after we play Ohio State there are no currently ranked teams after that probably works against us. Why?? Just because. Go ask Kirk to explain that to all of us.

It should be noted that there is a past history of Iowa playing like shit after the bye week. Will not be good if that trend continues.

Would love to see Iowa do to Ohio State what BYU just did to Kansas State.

I'm hoping Lester uses the time to coach up Cade.

Can we bring BF back just to game plan for OSU in the Shoe? Seemed to be the only good thing he did in 6 years as an OC.

Also, I believe Michigan beat a Top 10 opponent with half of the passing yards we had this weekend. Of course, their QB can run. I guess an argument can be made to put Sully in their and go all in on running people over. I don't think we have a QB that can pass on the roster right now anyway. Be who you are......

As much as I hate to admit this, that right there is what got nebraska to it's peak. tom osbourne is a rape-enabling, cheating piece of amphibian shit, but they did one thing and they did it well and didn't care about the 80s air raids starting all over the country.
No one covered up scandal and rampant steroid use better than Reverend Tom. POS.

Look, KF preaches wanting balanced 50/50 run pass, but if you asked him if he loved watching Iowa just slobberknock the boat rowers into next week, he would just smile. I think if things were 270 passing and 60 yards running, he would be concerned. I think he is fine being run heavy.

Again, my point isn't that this is a style of football likely to win in the modern era, my point is I don't think we have a QB that can pass well enough to change the dynamics. So again, be who you are. All I would ask is that there be at least a couple designed deep shots every game. You can't design an offense to be played only within 15 yards of the line of scrimmage.

I lived in Nebraska when this all happened. There were two groups of people. There were the "Osbourne didn't know anything about it" crowd and the "Who cares, we won" crowd. There wasn't a "nothing happened, it's all just rumors" crowd. I'm sure he didn't know there was a gun hidden in his file cabinet either.

We'd be the same way. Any fan base would. Hell, as far as I can tell, no one resigned from being a Penn State fan after that scandal came to light and was adjudicated in a courtroom.

I do my best to calls em as I sees em. It's an inexact science.

So what do you make of the second halves?
This isn't the first time we've seen Hawk teams make really good adjustments in the second half.
Both Parkers did it. And OC's prior to Brain, so I think that proves it as part of Kirk's "game".

Sometimes, though, I feel those 2nd half adjustments are as much due to attrition from superior strength/conditioning/size/quality of recruit. I mean, at times, we attributed quite a bit to Chris Doyle in the past.

I know, small sample size. 3 games with second halves that looked far better than the first half. And one (hopefully) outlier against ISU. I was pleased to see it happen in the 2nd half against MN. I mean, I know they're no world beater, but they're also no Troy. I was worried that when IOwa started playing 'real' teams, that the strength/conditioning/size factor would diminish.

I just don't know enough about x's and o's of football to know. To my unknowledgeable eye, I saw a little bit different look on defense in Saturday's game earlier in the second half. But I didn't see too much different on offense. Other than Johnson had holes, found holes, and made holes.

It's been a long time since I saw a Hawkeye runningback have days like this. Increasingly infrequent to see any RB have days like this.. Not gonna say I don't like it, cause I do. It's one thing for a Hawk to have a weak passing game, but a weak passing game and no running game has been intolerable these last few years.

That being said, 60 yards passing is still a bit scary in this era.

If they win 8 or even 9 with ~120 passing yards per.....does that make Kirk some kind of genius and prove that the game hasn't passed him? That the game is still the same game it was for 60 years and we all just forgot?

Not with this schedule.

Besides, KF has already proven that he can win with no offense at all. Right now, we have half an offense, which is better than anything we had last year when we made it to the conference title game.

I will say that if Iowa walks into the Shoe and wins 20-17 with 250 yards on the ground and 90 in the air, there will be some inflated discussions of the legend of Old School Ferentz. But, don't bet on that happening.

I don't know. I looked back at the Rhabdo threads and I didn't see any deniers/supporters and the rhabdo thing is not nearly as bad as rape/murder/assault. I'm sure we have our idiots, but it's hard to explain how much acceptance there was at NU. I've also heard many that say the PSU thing never happened. Or the Michigan spygate, etc. Again, I'm sure we have our idiots too. I just didn't see it around here.

Apples and oranges. Rhabdo wasn't a scandal that impacted directly wins and losses. It was easy to condemn the coaches there and be on the side of righteousness.

If we actually won a nattie, and we had used a grad assistant to cheat through in-game scouting like Michigan, we would be using the same justifications I am hearing from all my Michigan friends (blown out of proportion, didn't impact the game, everyone does it, he denies doing it, etc.)

I just don't think we can claim a moral high ground over other fanbases. We are fans, which definitionally makes us a bit diluted and irrational.
