2012-13 two deeps

I've mentioned before that May is a much better shooter from the wing/elbow which is generally while playing the 2 so one can argue his percentage would be even higher if not forced to shoot baseline jumpers from the 3 spot. Likewise a similar argument can be made for Gatens as he is consistently asked to create a shot with the clock winding down so perhaps his stats leapfrog May's if Eric were asked to play that role.

PG: Gesell/Clemmons
SG: Josh O/Ingram
SF: Marble/
PF: Basabe/McCabe
C: Woody/Olaseni

White gets minutes at the 3/4, Meyer at the 4/5, and May ends up the odd man out.

Simmons= 4 start who turned down Duke, Kentucky, UNC, Syracuse, and Kansas to go to Iowa.... Ha,ha kidding think he meant Clemmons

2012-2013 two deeps

PG starter= Gesell
PG back up= Clemmons
SG starter= Oglesby
SG back up= May (initially) I could see Ingram taking the role as the season goes on.
SF starter= Marble
SF back up= White
PF starter= Basabe
PF back up= McCabe
C starter= Woodbury
C back up= Olesani/Meyer (maybe Meyer is first back up ahead of Olesani who knows)

Heck with one scholarship open Iowa might go the JUCO route to find an athletic wing who can score. If that person is found he probably starts before Oglesby.

My starting line up is just a guess based on what I think will happen the first couple games next season.

Switch around Marble and White and I agree. Woodbury probably won't start until we get into Big10 season but I would expect him to log several minutes early.

White is a baller and Marble has been set back by being forced to play the point. I think Marble will probably get the nod early on in the season but eventually White will take over.

agreed that White has good ball skills and bb instincts but lacks the quickness to play 2 or 3 (wing) I see him more of a point/forward, hybred 4, similar to McCabe, if he gets stronger he will improve his post defense and rebounding, I think he has a great future

No... seriously... Marble isn't going to play the 2.
It will be Josh. Marble will play the wing at the 3 spot.

Storm

in todays game is there a big difference between 2 and 3? both seem to be wings, both capable of playing point for very short intervals, also it seems 90% of teams are going smaller with 4 perimter players and 1 post, ton of ball screens and 3's. just an opinion

Yes, the 2 and 3 are different, just like the 4 and 5 are.

so are you say we pigeon hole players by their height, as to what spot they play,
so you tell a kid you are 6'2 or under so you can only play the 1 the 6'3-6'5 can only play the 2, 6'6 to 6'7 has to play the 3 6'8-6'9 has to play the 4 and anyone 6'10 or taller can only play the center
because it sure seems like it to me,
and don't give that crap about athletic abilty, greyhound speed is not needed
otherwise the only BB players would be track stars

No, we play them where they are best fitted.
Marble is best fitted to play a wing, who can slash and score. He's not a jump shooting player no matter how much you want to think he is. (And I am high on Marble.)

Converse, Josh IS a jump shooter, much more fit to play the 2.

It's not that hard to understand.

glad to know you know more than Fran,. as he has said on more than one occasion that Marble will be a 2 and White is a 3

pg Gesell 6'2/Clemmons 6'1
sg Marble 6'6/Oglesby 6'5
sf May 6'5/White 6'8
pf Basabe 6'7/ McCabe 6'7
c Woodbury 7'1/Olaseni 6'11
reserves Ingram 6'3/Meyer 6'10
walkons Stubbs 6'2/ Marble 5'11/Stokes 6'8

height will not be a issue nor should depth as be a issue as we will have plenty of options for lineups, the starting lineup will be a battle for starting spots
that is the biggest reason why this team is struggling at the moment their is no real competition between the players for a spot

Cartwright: no backup to push for a starting job
Gatens: other than Marble and Oglesby both are young and have a lot to learn
May:again Marble but is busy working as a backup to Cartwright, White maybe next yearwill take it away from him
Basabe: McCabe will not beat out Basabe
center spot: is a major Question mark; hopefully Brommer can give major minutes and a inside presense, Archie gives good effort but it is not enough, Olaseni minute may increase as the season progresses

overall you need competition in practice to motivate kids, otherwise they get lazy and don't have to worry about losing their starting spots, this will make the biggest difference next season

Gesell
Oglesby
Marble
Basabe
Woodbury

im sorry but after the creighton game i was in attendance at i am not at all impressed with may. He seems to be a football or wrestler playing basketball to me. Marble really impressed me in this game though i see bright things from him as he learns more. Woodbury and Gesell 1st Team All-Big Ten Freshman next season. Oglesby will be lights out beast shooter next season. and as for Basabe we will see how hard he works and if he actually shows up or not. If i was coach id make him wear same warm up as everyone else on the team! :) lol

last spring when he was discussing Marble was being hurt by backing up Cartwright because he should have been playing the 2,
it not about disagreeing with me it alot of people on here tend to ignore Frans presser and what he says about where players will play, in that presser he even went on to talk about White as being a 3
all i do is pass on info from a presser or after game interviews nothing more
i am not in the habit of randomly sticking players into a spot
i put them in the spot Fran puts them in
if i do anything i pick my own starting lineups nothing more as in Frans eye i am a fan whose opinion in the grand scheme of thing don't mean sh1t just like any other fan

I've read all and attended some of Fran's pressers. I don't recall him ever saying anything about Marble at the 2. I do recall him talking about him wanted Dev to play the wing, his natural position... which is the 3.

But I am a self-righteous old man, too....
