Watching the tape of the Nebraska game and seeing JR throwing the game away with his fumble & interception (and previous play near-interception) inside Debbie's 10 might have been enough to legitimately change the ol' ball coach's mind about JR. Especially since JR returning may not be 100%...

Playing the safe player is especially loathsome when they make mistakes or turn the ball over as much as the 'risky' player, only without the upside! Vandenberg fumbled a couple of punt returns, and JR of course turned the ball over at least once in each of the last 6 games.

Ferentz needs to promise CJB that he'll start and play him at least two full games next fall of the 4 non-con games. That's the only fair thing to do, and probably the only way to get him to come back. Of course, what he really should do is just go ahead and name him the starter.
