Iowa opens at an 11 point favorite over Pat's Cats

Michigan -4 vs Notre Dame. That’s surprising. I bet they win, no idea why:)

Watch Wisky's pulling guard power action

We haven’t been in the top 50 in 10 years, including the BF run coordinator years. I’d say it’s time to seriously look at revamping our blocking schemes. Wisconsin is a perfect example of what works. If we can do anything at a top level, it should be blocking.

    Penn State / Michigan

The officiating was absolutely ridiculous in favor of PSU, both the noncalls and the calls. Those PSU idiots were whining all week about the Iowa game to. A bunch of them claimed to write letters to the BigTen. Absolutely pathetic fan base. I was pulling for Michigan big time.

    Iowa Running game issues

Iowa averaged 3.1 yards per rush attempt against Purdue. Purdue’s defense averages giving up 4.4 per rush attempt, 72nd, so another subpar performance.

    Onside Kick vs Penn St.?

Yes, we should have. If we fail, still need a 3 and out, either way. In other words, even if it’s only a 15-20% chance, it’s still an additional chance. If we then hold them to a 3 and out we still get the ball back, albeit with worse field position. I think there would have been about 2...

    Iowa Running game issues

When you think about it Wisconsin is probably the only team in the Big Ten with more stability than Iowa. Barry Alvarez has been, for practical purposes, the head coach since the early 90's. It's his scheme and philosophy. He just delegates the actual duties. I don't think the Wisconsin...

    Iowa Running game issues

A crappy passing game leads to a crappy running game and vice versa. In our case we have both. We're balanced:)

    Iowa Running game issues

This is sort of expanding on the Miller and Deace podcast. Looking at yards per attempt, probably the best measure of how effectively a team runs, Iowa hasn't been in the top 50 since 2008. Iowa was in the top 50 five times from 2001 to 2008. What changed? Maybe the RBs were better in those...

    This Guy.

I seem to remember the ND State DL made our OL look pretty bad, sort of like PSU or Michigan with lessor athletes. I think we had a starter out that game but still it’s an FCS team, given the best FCS team.

Let's Not Put This All On the Offense

The loss is mostly on the OL. That being said we should have played a cash guy instead of Neimann imo. It might have saved the 1st touchdown. Other than that it’s really amazing we held them to 17, even gifting them the very short field on the 2nd TD.

    Which is more likely?

I bet Iowa unleashes on offense. We’ve played very strong defenses the last two weeks. We might even have learned something. We’ll see.

    This Guy Gets It

Yep, consulting is very possible (if it's allowed by the NCAA idk). I'm sure he could look at the game film every week and tell Polasek what to do in minimal hours.

    This Guy Gets It

I guess he's unemployed currently. Stranger things have happened but I think he'd be more likely to be co-OC/OL, since he's a former NFL OC and head coach. They were showing how O'Keefe, KF and Philibin were all coaching at Worcester Academy in CT so they go way back.

KOK vs Brian passing game - the bootleg and receiver levels

I would like to see many more designed QB runs, maybe out of the empty set. NS took off a few times vs ISU and it worked. Stanley behind Linderbaum probably leads the nation in QB sneak yardage. He isn't that bad of a runner, sort of like a full-back or TE rumbling down the field.

Are these damning stats for Brian Ferentz?

Iowa actually did get over 300 yards, We outgained PSU by about 60 yards I believe. Michigan outgained us by 7 yards.

    Depth Chart for Purdue Game

I doubt OM sucks at all. We didn’t play Fant enough either and we know he doesn’t suck. He was close to starting fir Michigan, if not starting this year. Need to get him on the field. I wonder if the staff knows he’s an outside one on one downfield threat, not so much over the middle (at...

    Purdue +15

Currently, Sagarin shows Iowa as a 13 point favorite on a neutral field for NW. NW is the home team so Iowa should be favored by 10. I bet that will be pretty close to the Vegas line. If Vegas sees a match-up issue it could swing, either way.

    This Guy.

Nice post. That's a very interesting story about Klieman. This sounds like what every Big Ten team can do to Iowa but it sounds like Klieman can do it more quickly. Maybe he's some sort of savant. Afterall, those teams have had 20 years to figure it out, probably most of them had it down 10...

Chris Klieman is a good coach. We have Polasek on staff. He might make a good OC.

Hawkeye Nation Podcast post Penn State

Iowa hasn’t been in the top 50 in yards per attempt rushing since 2008. I looked it up. This for a team that prides itself on OLs.
