Let this sink in for a minute....

Yeah that was among the most stinging losses I can remember. In general Ferentz had us pretty well prepared to play good teams in the past, but since that game we have really struggled to compete in decisive games.

My Name is WinOneThisCentury, and I'm a...

I agree and interesting enough, I think it was 1997 when Iowa was like preseason 10th or something like that? Or they may have been in the top 10 when they were detesticled by Ohio st. That year they had major expectations, much like 2010 and this year. Maybe this is the end like frys last gasp...

    The QB Situation

Exactly. Ruddock is a good kid and pretty smart. But go back to his high school days and some of the games he has looked good in. What is in common? He looks good when he can stand forever back there and really step into his throws. When the play breaks down or requires less seconds to think, he...

Gaul's holding call on canzeri run and no fumble reversal...

Freaking exactly. Iowa got their rear ends handed to them in every phase of the game. Sure I was upset about the fumble call and the holding call, but in hindsight does it matter? King and duzeys fumbles were crushing blows to momentum and we actually had a field advantage AND the wind at our...

Special teams - what game will they cost us?

In reality though it will be about our offensive production... which it ALWAYS comes down to. I would reckon 80-90% of our losses can be attributed to a lack of offensive consistency.

Has Iowa Ever Had this Much Speed?

They also had Matt Roth coming off the bench for a pass rush... unreal.

Special teams - what game will they cost us?

Special teams hasn't cost us a game yet. It has also completely eliminated areas we have struggled in the past with kickoff return coverage and fake punts (punt safe defense everytime). Personally I like the changes there.. and Koehn has improved since his struggles.

Has Iowa Ever Had this Much Speed?

I actually think the 2002 team was the best blend of speed and talent that ferentz has had at the skill position in one season. Fred Russell and jermelle Lewis could house at any point. I also remember cj "see you later" jones and Mo brown consistently taking short routes and screens for TDs...

Canzeri coming out for a "breather"-come on

    I don't believe he is.

Does Iowa have a wheelroute to a RB in the playbook?

It it was against ball state, but I am not 100% sure it was a wheel tho... I do think we will see Parker do something similar to that play eventually.

    What to Expect from Maryland?

To me it comes down to big plays, if Iowa can limit these, I think they have a good chance of winning and possibly winning soundly. But, if diggs gets free for a couple or their other stud wideouts get free I can see us getting in too big a hole.

    Iowa-Indiana prediction thread

Not trying to be a wise-guy but perhaps its because canzeri actually can get to cutback lanes if he is healthy, which he clearly is not. If you look at some of Iowa's most productive backs under ferentz (betts, russell, young) these guys were excellent at finding the cutback lanes... and...

Kirk: CJB will play significant minutes

Remember when randle el ran for like 220 yds against us and we still won like 41-28. Still the best on field performance of an opposing player of a game I have been too. As as for the qb thing, Iowa definitely needs to establish the run otherwise there isn't much doubt that at some point in...

    Iowa-Indiana prediction thread

I think with the extra week to prepare I feel like the defense will come out pretty prepared and play very well. If you go back to the Missouri game it was the Coleman show, so slow down Coleman and you beat Indiana. Plus, Indiana does not have the deep threat recieving core they have had in the...

Kirk apparently confirms Jake is the starter

I was at that game and I agree that banks was playing a bit more effectively. However, to be devils advocate, late in the game he made an absolute horrible decision to run out of bounds instead of pick up an easy first down. I believe it was 3rd and 3 yds or somewhere around that, we were behind...

Deace's comment during the podcast really stuck out..

From the end of the 1st half at Pitt they have clearly changed their style of football. You would have to be blind not to see the change in aggressiveness. And I have also heard that jake ruddock was cleared to play so that throws the injury reason out the window. I think ferentz just saw the...

    SIAP: Gair looked reeeeal good!

I think they do both play, but considering lomax was a corner at one point in time he may have better range for a free safety spot than gair. They both obviously hit hard so it will be interesting to see how they handle that next year.

Finish the sentence...Beathard's arm is so strong that.........

His arm is so strong he tried to throw a dump pass in last Thursdays practice, that launched bullock into the endzone it was thrown so hard. Ferentz was obviously displeased with this practice from his post game comments.

    CJ or Jake

Agreed. If ruddock stayed in that game we go to 2-2 and all momentum is likely gone for the season. Just think about the possibilities that breathard gives you now... read options, bootlegs with the threat of a run, 10 yard cushions from dbs, 3rd and long completions off your back foot. Who...

I like KF's 7-4 record in last 11 against ISU

not to say they still didnt kick our tail that game, didnt we lose that one bc grant steen fumbled what would have been the sealing interception?
