Memphis is in CUSA- when is the last time an MVC team got past the sweet 16- maybe Drake under Maury John or Wichita under Ralph Miller. How many NBA players have come out of CUSA vs. MVC?
I guess I have to get on my old school personal contact soapbox again. But if Barta is strictly relying on the search firm to screen candidates, then it is time for him to go. I have been approached by head hunters numerous times in my career; I have never sreiously talked to them unless they...
Barbee may be at a mid major, but it is certainly a much higher mid major than the Horizon League and arguably higher than the MWC. Big difference is he has great experience as an assistant at the top of the heap. He sounds way better than the other names I've heard today.
I agree that Forbes is a risk; but based on the names I'm seeing- it might be time to take a risk. I'd feel better about Forbes, Lavin, BJ, Collins, Lusk, or Gillespie than Morrill, Boylen or Marshall.
With the list of guys we are seeing that are interested;I don't see how you can not consider Jake. In fact with the current talent, he'd probably do the best in short term- we have his kind of mid major talent. Could he grow to bring in the right assisstants to recruit better talent- don't know...
God; guess I overlokked Washington when I think of Duke, N Carolina, Kentucky, Mich St, Villanova, Syracuse and about 10-15 more that I waould associate BB success more than U of W- in fact how about U of Wisconsin as a better program.
I live in Houston. Tom Penders would be a disaster. It is 20 years since he rebuilt UT- he is now 64 years old. He did very little @ UH- they were 15-15 this year until they made it through an extremely weak CUSA field his first NCAA spot since he's been @ UH. His recruits at UH were all Jucos...
Hooper, I think you are right on both counts- Hewitt to St J, and we are not getting a high major guy. My opinion then is to go after someone who will make a splash and get Iowa back on the college BB map, not a no name. Lavin is a possibility, Collins has big name recognition because of Duke...
I think it depends upon the attitude and recruiting ability of the new staff. I agree that next year will only be marginally better than this year, it's too late to bring in an impact recruit . But I think there will be scholarships feed up for next year if the new coach is aggressive. We need...
While CUSA is not the B10; it is a whole lot closer to it than the freaking Horizon League. Who'd you rather play- Memphis or Green Bay, Tulsa or Cleveland State, etc. etc.
Not saying I want Brady, but Hayden Fry was fired at SMU. Actually had Brady done at A State what HF did at North Texas; I'd be willing to consider him. But he hasn't. A guy with his resume that hit a home run when going back to a mid major would be very interesting if he had the right...
When others mentioned BJ, I thought it was a joke; but, frankly the way Jon presents it makes some sense. There is no more classy individual in Iowa BB hitory than BJ. Talk about a guy who could represent the University. As an agent, he is majorly connected to the movers and shakers in...
