Is The New Parker Up To The Job?

I think after 8 games it is time to admit that our new D coordinator is struggling. Just about every team we play has scored on there first posession (which first points out the fact our D is not ready to play. After the last 2 games names PSU where players were admitting they had no idea how to defend what they were looking at, and the major lack of adjustments against NW spread the D out run up the middle ( which has been happening all season) I am convinced either Norm needs to come back or we need a new D coordinator. What happened to this supposed more aggressive scheme. Not only is Iowa less aggressive they are less prepared and playing on their heels. I also have to question his ability to put the best players on the field as there are some obvious changes that need to be made. I am tired of watching our mlb be out of position on run plays ( it is as if he doesn't understand down and distance at all). I love me some Iowa football, but I have seen enough to know the D is moving in a backwards direction and much of it has to do with coaching. Many people expected an outside hire for the D coordinator position, and I think it is time to consider it again. Some people are just not made to make decisions at game time speed and I think we have seen enough to evaluate this. What is your take on the job our new DC has done?

do you know there are just 4 seniors on this years defense 2* 5TH in Bigach, Gaglione in the DL with Hyde and Donatel being a walkon in the DB's, the rest are either 1 true Freshman, 2 RSSO, 2 RSFR and 1 RSJR in the 2 deeps on the DL he is working with the lb's have v3 JR'S with 2 1st year sytarters in Kirksey and Hitchens with 2 RSFR and a RSSO backing them up,, the db's have 2 new starters in Lowery and Donatel with 2* Castillo and a pair of true SOPH's backing them up..
lets let some of these players start to shave before we throw anybody under the bus

Yeah, we like slow Dbs to run our soft prevent defense. Law is too fast our there, so he doesn't fit. We will recommend he transfer out like Cato.

Well, being young has little to do with not being able to scheme or adjust to what other teams are doing. And, don't use Donnatel as an excuse cause my point was bascially by playing him instead of Law we are at a disadvantage especially against running teams. Like BB at Wisco or not he saw a normally good offensive line struggling, and made no excuses for the position coach and fired him. Like it or not that is the bussiness, go ahead and burry your head in the sand, but our D is weak and it starts with the coordinator. NW'S O-line is average at best and to begin the game we had an awesome opportunity to stop an obvious play call that just about every frigin othet team has run against us in the same situation, yet our d coordinator fails lto adjust. Even slow as hell Matt McGloin was able to run for first downs in obvious qb draw situations.

Time will tell. I'm not convinced this a coaching problem. Still, the season so far has been hard to take.

People keep looking for that ONE cause for this years sorry season... It is a TEAM sport, and blaming Parker is lame... Parker is NOT the problem, he is just part of a team that is playing badly... This is just another simple minded post looking for simple minded answers... Simply silly...

So Oh master of farsightedness then take a little look at the numbers for the games Phil has coached, include those games when Norm was ill (Remember the debacle at ASU Guess who was coaching the D). You will see he gives up many more points per game then otherwise. I am simple minded, but you are to stupid to see what is right in front of you. There is a body of evidence more than just the 8 games this year. I was hoping for the best that somehow Norm still had some input, but it is pretty obvious to those that know anything about football that our scheme is simply not working.

I don't know that the scoring defense will get as high as I thought
The rushing defense is cratering and on the way to the neighborhood I thought
Total defensive yards per game headed to worse than last year IMO..355 now, last year was 378

On the whole, the defense is likely not going to be as 'bad' as I thought, yet I think there are a lot of yards to be had by Indiana, Michigan and Nebraska.

are the first four posts by the same guy? this is one confusing thread full of run-on sentences.

It is a miracle the defense made it this far into the season before they caved. You cannot expect a unit with this much inexperience to carry the entire team for an entire season. Sans the Penn State game, Parker has done an excellent job making adjustments and limiting the opponents' 2nd half scoring and production.

Hmmm, after the MSU game I thought everyone was saying how great this D was and that Parker was the real deal. What happened?

Defense did not face a challenging Offense until the Penn St game. Since that time they have struggled and weaknesses exposed. The next 3-4 weeks will be very challenging for the D and will provide us with insight in regard to if progress is being made. I believe they will have major struggles against Indiana, Michigan, and Nebby.

Believe many posters did not realize how bad Mich St offense was/is. Very similar to the Hawks Offense this yr.
