He made one bad hire in Lickliter but did the right thing and ate Lickliter's buyout after just 3 years and seems to have the program going in the right direction with Fran.

Just competed a 40 million dollar makeover of Carver facilities and has another huge project underway with the football practice facility. Donations are at an all-time high for the athletic department and the athletic department has been self-sustaining for years now.

How is he awful?

Bob Bowlsby is well respected nationally and is the AD of one of the top athletic universities in the country. Whose credibility is gone?

So everything that goes well in the athletic department is because of KF but everything that goes wrong in the athletic department is Barta's fault?

You cant have it both ways. He deserves credit when donations are at an all-time high and he deserves blame when something goes wrong inside the department.

And Barta>Pollard.

I have no desire to make this into an Iowa and Iowa State thing. I hope my posts show that.

My point is that Kirk Ferentz taking Iowa to 2 Orange Bowls in a decade, many Jan bowls, and top 10 finishes is the reason that Iowa has raised a ton of money lately. Everyone knows that football is the backbone financially to the rest of the athletic program and Iowa has had perhaps the greatest 10 year run in their history. It's no coincidence that $$ has come flooding in.

That and the Big 10 Network has obviously helped put cash in Iowa's pocket and Barta doesn't get any credit for that.

The guy fired Tom Davis, Hired Steve Alford...Botched the Stoops debacle, tried to get Terry Allen, Boosters stepped in forced his hand to Ferentz, and also the Pierre Pierce thing.

I personally blame Bowlsby for the demise of Iowa bball.

In the defense of Bowlsby most Hawk fans thought we were 1 good recruiting coach away from competing for Final Four/NC games. The fan base was no longer satisfied with annual trips to the 2nd round of the NCAA tournament and attendance was dropping. I was a big fan of Tom Davis but even I was excited over the Alford hire. The first 3 years of Alfords tenure were some of the best years attendance wise since the 80s.

no, he didnt. Allen was under consideration because he was an highly successful and respected football coach.

im sure at the time you wanted to hire the coach with the .300 winning percentage at Maine, correct?
