Nebraska fans make me sick

Eddy, thank you for supporting me through my transition to a Northwestern fan. You get it. If you live somewhere, you have to be a fan of that team. Once you cross the Missourrah into Iowa, you have to be an Iowa fan. Once you move into Evanston, you have to be a 'Cat fan. I've been trying to 'splain that to everyone on here, but finally you get it. If I stroll into a bar in IC and go to flip on the 'Cats, there better be an army of about 20 dudes to rassle the remote away.

Well I'm glad I could help out but maybe I didn't explain it well enough. I'm referring to folks that grew up IN IOWA along the Missourrah River who have been life long Husker fans. I have some in my family. I remember sitting at the last Iowa/Nebraska game and talking to the fellas in front of us decked out in Husker gear. Where you from I asked. He said some small town in western Iowa and when I had a strange look on my face he felt he had to explain. Well, you see he says we don't get WHO over where we are. Ok buddy whatever helps you sleep at night.

So last Saturday i showed up at my local watering hole (Roadside Inn) to watch the Iowa game. My friend and i were some of the first patrons to show up like normal. We watched the game all the way up until the rain delay.

Meanwhile there was a youth tackle football tournament going on at the local high school football field. Evidently a lot of the teams came from western Iowa which brought 20 or so cornshucker fans down to the bar. While the rain delay happend a couple fans wanted to watch the the Neby game. We said ok but when the Iowa game comes back on we are changing it back. We thought we would be nice.

Keep in mind there are only 2 flatscreens in the whole bar resturant and i also am great friends with the owner who is a big Hawkeye fan. There is Iowa gear hanging everywhere.

So i grabbed the remote to change the bar tv back to the Iowa game. When i did that several guys at the bar said what are you doing!? I responded With a "what are YOU doing? I explained to them about how they were sitting in a Hawkeye bar in Iowa and how they are lucky that i dont change both TVs to the Iowa game. I was trying to compromise.

In return i got a "show some respect" and a "since your out numbered go watch the game somewhere else!"

I just about freaked out. I said to them, "you dont see me driving into the heart of Nebraska and demanding the Tv stays on the hawkeye game do you? Look around fellas you are in a IOWA HAWKEYE BAR!! You show some respect... One guy said back to me, "whatever i guess we will take the high road." trying to make me feel bad for compromising. I felt like puking on everyone of them.

Seriously what would die hard Nebraska fans do to me if i tried to pull that **** in their state?
No matter how outnumbered you are never let our ******* neighbors to the west take over your local bar as long as you live in the Hawkeye State! That is my new pledge!

Love the rant, this explains my experience with some Nebraska fans. While I agree with 74 that not all their fans would act this way, they do seem to have more than their share of these winners.

Eddy P be happy you don't live in the western part of the state, there are a lot of people that have lost their way and have fallen in with the Nebraska fan base.

Ah I dont mind other teams fans. Now from what you said you were clearly in a Hawk bar and no fan of any other team should expect the channel to be on anything else but the Hawk game. Do they go to a biker bar on a moped? Do they go to a **** bar and try and pick up women? Seems a little common sense goes a long way here.

I think this question was asked at B1G 10 media days.
Coach, what kind of impact of Nebraska fans will be in bars in Big Ten Country?

1. I have to admit it, when Iowa State is not playing Iowa, I root for the Cyclones. They are from our State. They are our brothers. I want them to win, because they are Iowans. And, by the way, Iowa State is a very good school that all Iowans should be proud of.

2. I want Nebraska to lose. All the time. I hate their lousy school (and it is lousy, by the way), and their arrogant, lousy fans.

The only way to shut the Husker fans up is to beat them. And I think we will!!

I really appreciate the hate.

Maybe someone can help me with my problem.

You see, I live in Madison, WI and I loathe the Badgers. Yet, the Badgers (not in our division) play Nebby in the shuckers first conference game. What do I do? I usually go with plan A, which is "hate all red teams" and that works pretty well. However, they're both red, and I kinda hate both of them already. However, for me (being a Madison resident), I REALLY hate Wisconsin. What should I do?

Hate them both and hope Bucky Skunk wins, only because the Bugeaters are in our division.

When I step into the Roadside Inn in Martensdale, I like to as the first person I see "Is this THE Roadside Inn, in Martensdale", just to make sure I went to the right place.

You sure cant miss it. It's on the side of the road in Martensdale. Home of the current longest winning streak ever in the history of high school baseball. Its a pretty nice place really.

You must not know many Husker fans. Husker fan has multiple national titles to fall back on. We've got "Well, Chuck Long dang near won the Heisman back in '85." Or, "Well, we went to the Rose Bowl 20 years ago and it was awesome." Don't hate the player, hate the game, buddy.

They got deep fried mushrooms and Pasquale's Pizza there? If not, pass.

Oh they got your shrooms OK4P. Is that what youve been on?

How in the heck can someone be "on shrooms?" I don't get it. Irregardless, what about the pizza? Any bar within a day's drive of Humboldt that doesn't have Pasquale's ain't a bar I want to visit.

If you want that Humbolt pizza drive another 4 miles to the south and you will find what you are looking for At Northside bar and grill in St marys Iowa.
Love that specialty pizza with the 3 strips of bacon on top. Pretty good breakfast pizza to.

"Man that guy must be on shrooms!"
You sure you never heard somebody say that before OK4P? How many did you eat?

Wild Turkey, was that incident in The Roadside Inn the cause of your gripper?

I am familiar with the Famous Giant Loin served at the Roadside Inn in Martensdale, If we are speaking about the same place.

Every team has its share of aholes. Just a fact of life. Amazing how some people act. But at least you took the high road. Absolutely not worth it ... But, yeah, I can definitely see the entire experience being frustrating.

Funny you ask. No it was not but it sure didnt help. I got out of the hospital on Friday and on Saturday I had a bunch of Nebraska fans getting me worked up in my own home town bar. Its bad enough i didnt get to go to the game.(by the way i was drinking raspberry iced teas).
I had to step outside for a bit because i could feel my heart tryin to come out of my chest. I was ok after that until I went to the Keg stand in Des Moines to watch the Isu/Uni game. The end of that game got me going a bit to.

I might have to become a stay at home message board junkie to save my health..

There's gotta be a hundred places in Iowa that claim to have a "famouse giant tenderloin". For the love of bar food everwhere, who really has the biggest breaded tenderloin in the land?
