Just wondering, I heard that Coe has to play 2 years at Iowa Western. Is that true or will he be able to play DE for Iowa next year?

Good question. Don't know the answer, but I've also been wondering if Coe can still get a redshirt for this season, even if he is playing at Iowa Western? That should work right because he won't have played at all at D1, so should be good for at least a D1 redshirt.

IW has outscored the first two opponents 136-0. Ouch. Coe is the backup RB, behind Andre Dawson of Cedar Rapids.

It doesnt work like that. A year of playing is a year of playing no matter the level

Sorry. I thought this was a conference expansion thread about a likely Big XII replacement school once UT, TT, OU, and OSU bolt.

Coe could only join the Hawks in '12 IF he got his Associates Degree by the end of next summer. Given that he had academic issues to start with ... it's probably a stretch to assume that he'd be able to graduate early. If this were to happen ... Coe would then still have 4 years to play 3.

However, that said, IF Coe is on track to return ... he'd likely return for the Spring '13. He'd still have a redshirt year to use ... but he'd also only have 2 more years of eligibility remaining. In other words, he'd have 3 years to play 2.

The only way Coe could play next year is if he took a full course load this past summer, is taking a full load now, takes a full load next semester, then takes a full load again next summer to finish his AA. That's a stretch at best, and its much, much more likely that he goes a little slower and is at IWCC for 2 years.

Lyddea, I really hope you're joking about these redshirt issues.

I don't know that the joke is, is it possible that Coe can redshirt next year??? Or can you only redshirt as a Freshmen or if your injured??? Just kind of curious what the redshirt rules are.

Lyddea, you need some serious review of redshirt rules. Try the google thing for a review and give us a full report...

In short, you can redshirt any year, if you have a redshirt year available. That is you have 5 years to play 4. If you are a senior in your 4th year, you can redshirt that season & then play your 5th year. You would either not play at all, or have to be injured more than 75% (I think it is 75%?? Better google it) of the season and not finish that season. Meaning you could be hurt for the first 10 games and then play the last 2 games of the season, but not still redshirt. But you could play 3 games, get injured and miss the remaining 10 games and still redshirt. Crap, I can't remember if bowl games count in the percentage of games played or not??? I suppose confernce championship games come into play as well. I am guessing regular season only, but you better Google...

While your at it, you can get a 6th season with an extra redshirt, but again your friend Mr. Google will have to help you out on the one. I hate typing on this phone...

Look, if Coker can still redshirt, then I don't see why Coe can't get a D1 redishirt. Coker has actually played for Iowa this year!

That should answer it for you. He doesn't go to Iowa. How can he get a redshirt from Iowa?

This is rather amazing.
