Pick-up game on Saturday

Do you think it will be a pickup/PTL game style of scrimmage, or a Fran desired play with some team ball control? I would like to see that game, regardless. I think that they will be playing how coach wants them to play in real action, and not PTL or Pickup game style, but with that pickup game run and gun mixed in.

There will be no coaches present. It will be far less structured than a PTL game.

Um...have you been to a PTL game? They are basically pickup games with some refs calling a few fouls, timeouts & substitutions. I was hoping, and would hope for far more leadership & thus far more structure than most all of the PTL games.

No coaches need be present to have a structured scrimmage. Not at this level. Not if you have leaders on your team (I.e. Gatens & Cartwright). This practice scrimmage should show just how developed and adapted to Fran's system our Hawkeyes are. Much more so than a pickup game at the Fieldhouse or a PTL game with random players and zero coaching (sorry, I don't count the wannabe coaching)...

The bolded makes the PTL more structured than these pick-up games.

Again, you haven't been to a PTL game have you?

Just because the PTL isn't very structured doesn't make this pickup game more structured.

People call the PTL "glorified pickup". And it is.

This is straight pickup. By definition, it's a lower level of structure.

True, true and I couldn't tell you until I see it. But call it whatever you like. They can have refs, a clock and substitutions if they want tomorrow. Unlike PTL, they will have blocks called on plays inside the new foul line.
I specifically remember seeing some pre-football pickup games, without coaches, that would be a heck of a lot more structured than most all of the PTL games. It will all depend on how the team wants to play it, and how they have it set up. Mainly it will depend on the team leadership and how they want the show to go... It should be interesting either way. It has been a long time since I have had any interest in Hawkeye basketball. That is a great thing!

I went to a few of these scrimmages last year. No structure. No clock. No scoreboard. Full court to 21 I believe. Lots of isolation and pick-and-rolls. Pretty much the definition of pick-up. So, as I said in my previous post...the refs, timeouts, substitions, etc make the PTL MUCH more structured than these scrimmages. Frankly, that fact that you're arguing about the structure of something you, admittedly, have never seen is a little ridiculous.

I Never admitted I haven't seen ****. But who am I kidding, you are right there will be no structure, it will be just a random game with guys throwing the ball in the basket. Nothing resembling the structure of a McCaffery designed play whatsoever, no set plays at all, nothing will be ran that Fran would have possibly drawn up in past practice. Who am I foolin. The odds of seeing some of Fran's structured offensive schemes tomorrow would have to be nil.

anybody go? rain-delay= good time to report

Not much to report. May's shot looked good, Olaseni ran the floor well, Marble and Cartwright looked solid. Very little defense and guys were pretty much going through the motions. It was a very loose pick up game, but the floor looks cool and my wife got a kick out of seeing a shirtless May run around with his 2% body fat physique.

I guess Marble's cousin and some kid from Cedar Falls got invited to be walk on players. Can anyone confirm?

Steven Marble is walking on after a year at Kirkwood, can't remember who the other is, but there are a total of 5 walk-ons this year

Killer, is Marbles cuz the same one that was thinking about it last year? I'd like to see Cougs, come back as a walk-on next year(I know) behind Olaseni, hopefully Woody we'd have some nice depth!!!...............

Dude are you serious with this? Cougill signed at Wisconsin-Green Bay.

Yes, Steve is Marbles cousin. He put on a lot of muscle this year, but if he is ever needed this year that is not a good thing.
