Cartwright has an outside shot at breaking the single season assist record

Currently Andre has it at 193. Cartwright is at 163 with at least 3 games left to play. For him to have any realistic shot they have to win at least one game in the B10 tourney. That gives him 4 games to get 30 assists, or a little more than 7 a game. He's currently averaging just under 6 so he'd definately need to step it up. If Iowa manages to win 2 games in the B10 tourney he's better than even money to break it.

On paper he's having one of the best seasons by a PG in Iowa history. I'm curious to see what he does next year with a bit more talent around him.

I'm guessing you mean he has 133 assists? Did Andre set the record his senior year?

Even if he doesn't get it this year, I think he could next year. He took most of the non-conference schedule to really figure out what works and what doesn't, and once he settled in he's been tremendous. If he plays for a full season the way he has in the Big Ten, he'll break that record with ease.

Not necessarily. With Cully Payne coming back they could split pg duties with Cartwright seeing more time at the 2 guard spot. He could have a much better season but still come up with less assists.

Announcers made a good point during the Illinois game. We are near the bottom of the conference in scoring and I think that will be improved next year. Obviously, the more we score the more chances there are for assists.

The only thing that would hold him back next year is injury, or a decline in playing time that might accompany a deeper roster.

If cully and cartwright are on the floor at the same time, cartwright will be the point. Cully should be a better shooter and do better at the 2.

I like Cartwright what a year is has turned this season into, but mercy did Andre have a ton of assist blown for him. The main reason I remember he was neck and neck with Minnesota's guard Bobby Jackson for MVP.

I'd be willing to bet Cartwright had more assist opportunities blown for him than Dre did.

Great season by Cartwright considering the talent level around him, it being his first year of Big 10 ball and in a new system. You are correct I'd say, if he had any guys around him who could knock down jumpers consistently he'd have a lot more assists.

Saw a few games ago he was leading the Big10 in league play. Is that still the case? Pretty darn impressive.

What's impressive regardless if BC gets record, is that he has this many assists with a team that doesn't shoot the ball particularly well. Iowa is one of the worst FG% teams in Big Ten. He has really impressed me during conference play.

Very true he seems so much more comfortable in traffic.

We haven't seen a pair like Cartwright and Basabe in a while. Add White to the list and go get a couple more guys of this caliber and Iowa is back in post-season play.

No doubt. We must average 3.5 missed bunnies per game. I think Brommer has missed about two dozen himself. Cole and Basabe do a good job finishing, but that's about it.
