Odds Against Indiana

The issue is Indiana can throw or run. Once they got up big, they pounded Illinois with like 12-15 straight run plays. We wont be able to sell out on runs or passes. Phil will have to be very creative with his schemes. Couple that with Lester creating some long, sustained long drives to keep the ball out of their hands. They are somewhat of a tempo style offense. Get them going and it could be a long day for us.

I do think the Rutgers game was much bigger than some realize. A Friday night road game. I believe their homecoming and in their mind a winnable game for them. I'm sure Schiano had this game circled.

The crowd was electric, and we took their best shots and answered. IF we can take that mentality, we have a chance. I'm hoping for some Kinnick magic.

Ferentz teams have historically sucked coming off of a bye week. I'm not sure it applies to an extra day of rest.
This is bunk. I hate when people say that.

Below are all games off byes in the Ferentz era...

Ferentz is 10-12 coming off byes since 1999. 4 of those losses are against Ohio State which are games the Hawks will NEVER be favored in, whatsoever. So as far as that goes, you can throw those out of your argument because they're L's no matter what time of the season they happen. Two of those losses are against ranked Penn State teams, which, bye or not, Iowa would not be favored in. I also have a helluva hard time holding 1999 and 2000 against him because he was a brand new coach in a program that was floundering. What did you expect to happen those 2 years? Be honest.

Iowa has also beaten OSU and Penn State once each coming off a bye.

So...if you're going to say that Ferentz has definitively sucked historically coming off a bye, you're going to have to provide some evidence among context as to why.

Stop making so much sense.

Also, do you remember what was different about that game? Iowa—a team that doesn’t blitz—brought the house on repeat that game and took Urbs completely off guard.

Phil if you’re reading this (and I’m sure you are), write that down.
Yes!!!! But I hate to say it, that defense was much more talented than the one we have now. Josh Jackson and several others. But Jackson had 3 picks? And didn't Nate Stanley have 5 passing TD's. I think we will need career performances for some of our guys. But boy, that would be awesome. Also, probably BF's best game planning as an OC so there had to be some divine intervention. LOL.

Honestly, our LBs are not all that great in coverage. Might as well send them head hunting the QB. That said, I suspect we will give up some big plays. We do not exactly have lock down guys in the secondary.

I still might opt for a bend but don't break D, and hope we can draw some mistakes during a 10 play drive.

With Indiana's QBs and WRs vs our secondary the only way the Hawks can even begin to contain it is with QB pressure. That's where I was saying Iowa's going to be so much of a different test for them vs an Illinois.

Llewellyn, Hurkett, and Graves are hopefully going to be a problem all afternoon.
