Jeff Horner to BVU

There is a hospital in Storm Lake with the same name as the college. While I lived there I never really heard much about them having much going on in Sports.

One memory I shall never forget was the sound of the flight for life lifting off from the hospital's helicopter pad to fly my newborn son (literally one hour after birth) to the Netal Natal Unit in Omaha, Nebraska. Also the serious look on the doctor's face when he came into the room my wife and I were assigned. My wife had just had a C-section, and the doctors told her she should stay AT LEAST three days before leaving to go to Omaha.

"NOT!!!!!!!!!" Was my wife's reply to that doctor. We are leaving for Omaha as soon as we awoke the next morning. My wife wanted to go as soon as the helicopter left the groiund. She tried to convince the hospital to let her fly in the helicopter with our son. When we got the $5000 bill just for the flight for life transport to Omaha, I wanted to know where my helicopter was parked.

We enjoyed Storm Lake as the people seemed really nice for the two years that we lived there. Small community, peaceful rural like setting. However very cold with the constant windchill factors during the winter.
 


I get pissy when people mix up Storm Lake with Spirit Lake. Biiiiiiig Difference.

I suspect this will be a short stint for Jeff. Build it up, create a winner, move to a real college town. Congrats.

I was born at that hospital.. Grew up 30 mins west of there. It was probably half the size it is now as they've done a lot of adding to it over the years. The school is just to the south and east right on the lake. My friends and I went to those summer basketball camps they had with Iowas coaches and some players. I bet I was at same ones with Ben as I'm 2 yrs older then him. That's the gym we were in at BV for all those. Pretty wild how Horner is going to be coaching there now.
 


What is BV, DIII or NAIA?

Jeff will certainly give the program some name recognition. Maybe they are wanting to upgrade?

I've never been to Storm Lake. A month or so ago the City of Storm Lake posted an article on facebook about hometown boy Ben MCcollum getting hired as the hawk coach. I clicked on it and read the article Now with all this AI stuff, I'm guessing that's what it is, I'm getting all these Storm Lake feeds about everything Storm Lake. I'm going to visit Iowa in August and my wife and i just might drive up there and check it out.

I haven’t been through there in over 25 years so my memory may be faulty but as I recall it’s just another town dominated by a meatpacking plant. The other thing I remember about it is I had a pair of Teva’s stolen off the back of my motorcycle while I was inside a convenience store. Okoboji would be a more interesting lake to visit.

The Boji/IGL area is fun, but it definitely has it's downfalls. If you're rich it's a fun playground, if you're not it's just a Temu version of the Ozarks. In 44 years I've spent a HELL of a lot of time there.

We're thinking of visiting Spirit Lake as well.
 




I will give Storm Lake some props. They invested in a lakeside water park, both indoor and outdoor, and a hotel and convention center. Its called Kings Pointe. We have done a couple family weekends there. Its a poor man's version of Great Wolf Lodge. Beyond that, Storm Lake doesn't have much going for it.

Spirit Lake/Okoboji is a great Summer destination and Winter Games is epic fun.
 


I looked at this in the morning without my glasses, and I saw BYU instead of BVU and I immediately went WTF. Getting old suuucks, more importantly it is a good thing I didn’t overreact.:)
