Nebbie's Game Tonight Likely Decides Frost's Fate

Since we are off and basking in the big victory, thought I would analyze the CornFuskers remaining fate, especially given that we will be facing them for some likely high stakes on Black Friday.

First, unlike the media and the Sand People fan base, I would posit that Nebraska is playing well and generally above expectations. Nebraska played down to an unknown Illinois team and shit the bed there. Sure. But after that, they waxed two cupcakes, took a Top 5 Okie team to the wire in Norman, and outplayed MSU but somehow lost to a Top 25 team on the road. So, 4 out of 5 games Nubby played above their weight class. They are just the dumbest, most undisciplined team in the country, but the talent is there. That defense is legit and Martinez is probably the best QB in the conference through 5 games.

Because I believe they are actually playing well, and will likely reduce the boneheaded stuff a little, I think the Bugeaters take care of business tonight against NW, split with Michigan and Minny, and beat Purdue at home. That gives them 5 wins going into a murderers row of OSU, at Wisky, and Iowa. All they need is one upset to be bowl eligible. 50/50, but I think Trev keeps Frost even with 5 wins under the theory that things are trending better.

If Fitz pulls a Fitz and somehow upsets the Corncobs at home tonight, put a fork in Frost. He's done. The team has no path and will implode. Its that important.

Finally, the thoughts above go out the window if Martinez gets knocked out (which has happened each of the last three seasons). I don't think the Cornwipes can win a game on their remaining schedule without Martinez. He is the only playmaker on that entire offense. The back-ups are nothing.

Agree that Nebraska has been playing well on O and D (ST is a nightmare). Their D has been good for a few years; they are undisciplined and can give up big plays, but they can thump you. They also had a few important super seniors come back on that side of the ball.

O has been terrible the past couple years, and trending downward. Martinez is single-handedly elevating them this year...I think he is a tough dude who has caught a lot of flak due to Frost's ineptitude. But again you are right, if he gets hurt, this season nosedives hard.

I guarantee he survives the season. They have nothing else to turn to. Frost was legitimately the hottest coach in the country and was the prodigal son of Lincoln and even he couldn’t turn the program around.

I wouldn’t be shocked if he comes back next year based solely on the losses being closer this year. They got nothing else and it’s not a job anyone of any accomplishment wants.

Northwestern looks like dog shit. But you know damn well they’ll put it together against Iowa.
