Probably the best outcome considering how the season transpired.

What a joke the AP poll is. I mean seriously Utah St. beats N. texas and is ahead of Iowa? Boise St. doesn't even play its bowl and is ahead of Iowa? Cincinnati beats a sub .500 VaTech and is ahead of Iowa?

I mean which is it you dumb ass media? Is the SEC the end all beat all, or aren't they? I mean Iowa beat the #18 ranked team who is in the all powerful SEC and they get squat for it. What a joke.

Even better, lets look at the preseason 2019 rankings:

No Iowa, but every team around Iowa is ranked. Wisconsin, Northwestern, Missouri, Iowa State, and Nebraska.....It looks like Iowa fighting Minnesota and Illinois for being the worst team in the region........

I can't say I blame the writer. He is judging teams by the amount of talent they have returning and Iowa is losing a lot of talent to the NFL. This was the year Iowa should have made their run and won the West and they failed. Unless the coaches have recruits that can fill these holes right away then they are going to struggle to win 8 games next year with the schedule they have.

I expect the offense to improve but the defense has a lot of holes to fill, Epenesa cannot carry the defense by himself.

Iowa loses a lot of guys to the NFL every year, though this year seems a little extreme. Last year, this same post was put up. How are we gonna win games with losing James Daniels, Josh Jackson and Jewell? The year before it was said "how is Iowa going to win games without CJ, Jaleel, Kittle and King". This is not a new position for this program, they keep plugging those holes tho with high caliber players. It does suck tho for Iowa fans, can you imagine this years team with Daniels and JJ? I don't know that you can really put any blame on anyone and it's not like it's a bad position to be in. The reality is that the NFL has learned that Iowa has one of the best coaching staffs in the country and they know what they are getting, players ready to contribute at the highest level and they are starting to nab them early. That's a trend across the sport.

Can't argue with this. Iowa is losing a shocking amount of starters and quite honestly very few good draft eligible players are still on the team which means very few if any good 3/4 year program players. That's a bad recipe for Iowa.

Spot on. Iowa is going to lose 4-6 major contributors each year to graduation/early entry. How well Iowa does the following year is more about the guys that returned, and or developed in that time. So while there is no doubt the TE group is weaker, is that offset with the improvement at WR, RB and QB play? Just like last year we lost Jackson and Jewell we needed players to step up and they did. We had more of a dominate DL/pass rush than we had had in a long time.

I think the sum of the parts will be mush the same, but just look a little different. Better WR production along with an improved running game, and we replace that massive hit to the TE production. The bigger question to me is can Iowa get to 9 wins with the schedule they face next year. Lots of tough road games, the sledding will be tougher next year schedule wise

Folks, this has been explained ad nauseum. First off, we never get talked about early as we play absolutely nobody in the non conference and our recruiting classes are ho hum. We beat one p5 team in the regular season with a winning record and our defense played stellar in beating a middle of the road SEC team to give us our second p5 win over a team with a winning record. We never leave home in September and evidently have an easement to show up at the outback bowl whenever we want due to fan travel. We play a boring brand of football, play low scoring games, throw to tight ends and in some yrs highlight a fullback at tailback. Many of us appreciate all the lunchpail stuff but much of the rest of America doesn’t. Winning big games and playing home and homes intersectionally moves the meter. So does a flashy qb, a tailback that takes it the distance and wideouts that do the same. Our plodding, phone booth, punting, field position, fullback, tight end stuff doesn’t do it for most and the media follows suit. The biggest talk out of camp ferentz is nfl draft picks but the elephant in the room is why the team doesn’t win at a much higher level when they are in college? Who cares what they do once they leave

The AP poles generally throw a bone to some of the better teams from the lesser conferences. The Mountain West benefited from it this year. Fresno probably deserves a spot in the top 25 because of both excellent record and consistent wins against fairly good teams. Aside from being in a lesser conference my other issue is the Mountain West was weak in the middle this year, even by their own conference standards. That padded win totals.

On the other hand, North Dakota State would probably give 18 through 25 a run for their money, but FCS teams are excluded.

Iowa loses a lot of talent, and one can't help but look back upon the season as one of lost opportunities. Perhaps even more so as we see if the departing talent is in fact, top NFL talent. We will see.

I know that but this year we are losing more underclassmen than usual.

Losses at TE hurt, but will force Stanley and co., to throw more to the WR's next year. This can only be good for Iowa going forward.

Not only this but as things currently sit, Northwestern, Purdue, Minnesota, & Nebraska have no players leaving early for the NFL. Wisconsin is losing 1 guy on their OL.

Its pretty tough when you're losing a bunch of guys to the NFL and teams that beat you don't and the teams just behind you don't.

How the hell is Iowa State ranked ahead of us? They lose Montgomery and Butler, by far their two most productive players. Oh well...once we go into Ames and spank them, they won't stay ranked.

I would have guessed around 20-22... But that's picking at nits and not something to make a big deal over. Iowa's been under ranked before and they will again. I would be curious to know what'd they have us at before the bowl games were played
