This sucks

What years did Villanova fans try to run him out of dodge? Fred Hoiberg sucks, the sooner the Bulls realize that the better.

3 straight NIT(s) when he arrived.......2 teams in a row that got 25+ wins was bounced in the 1st round of the tournament. Mixed in there was a 13 win season. Fran’s not on Jay’s level, but I just don’t like the idea of that Fran is incapable of becoming a better coach . “He is who is” may be true or may not. I want to believe the latter.

As for Hoiberg, you guys would take him back in a heartbeat.

I'll ask again what multiple years did Villanova fans want him fired? I can't stand Fred Hoiberg for what it's worth. He makes Fran look like a defensive specialist.

Around 04-05 and 13 -14. Stop lying you love Hoiberg.

04-05 was after his third season. That's pretty premature to fire someone unless they are terrible like Lickliter. In 13-14 they went 29-5 and won their conference outright so anyone who wanted him fired after that is dumb especially because before that he had produced 2 Sweet 16's, an Elite Eight and a Final Four. I'm a Bulls fan and I think Hoiberg is the worst coach in the NBA.

It is not about his resume, it is about patience being rewarded.

Winning conference titles, sweet 16's, an Elite Eight and a Final Four isn't having to be patient. It's a terrible analogy and I'm not sure why you're still defending it.

That was obvious to anyone with a 3rd grade reading level.

Wright has been very successful at Villanova so I'm not sure what patience you are talking about. I'm not buying his story Villanova fans wanted him fired after winning a conference title either. It's a horrible comparison that's obvious to anyone but you two.

Back me up here @deanvogs on how dumb it is to compare Villanova fans patience to ours. I'm sure the guy wearing his final four hat wanting his coach fired and winning a conference title is real smart haha!

Any coach from a Power 6 conference that goes to 3 straight NIT(s) there will be rumblings. Back to back seasons with 25+ wins and getting bounced in the 1st round there were people that wanted more. He didn’t get run out of town and he was able to figure things out. The 13 win season I believe in 12-13 he talked about needing to get more tough minded kids. Which led to getting the Archianno(sp?) class.

Maybe Iowa needs to move on from Fran. I don’t like that notion that it can’t or won’t get better under him.

And I don't get how Fran has gotten us within 2 plays of winning a Big 10 title. (A Nigel Hayes missed 3 pointer and a Yogi Ferrel missed 3 pointer) yet you somehow think that is the highest he can possibly get us. Like he couldn't get us in the exact same situation again and the opponent actually misses the shot at the end. He doesn't even have to do anything better. Just get a little lucky in 2 games and he wins a conference title. Yet it's impossible because it wasn't in the cards that time.
I think Fran needs to go. I would prefer the program not deteriorate to make that happen, but as long as Barta is AD and giving contract extensions for mediocre performance, it may necessary for that to happen before Fran is shown the door.
thats it. I don’t want Iowa to lose either, but it feels like a permanent mediocre is in place with Barta at the helm. If this were a normal situation, I would actually be far less harsh on Fran, but Barta has essentially made Iowa fans feel trapped and that is when people lash out.

They wanted to run him out of Dodge on multiple occasions and he was able to figure it out. Yeah, I am hoping Fran can figure it out. Will he? That’s the million dollar question and a lot of people have their doubts.

Sorry, not everyone can be as great as Fred Hoiberg.
Jay wright is the perfect example of what Fran isn’t. Sweet sixteen in year 4. Elite 8 year 5. Final 4 in year 8. He built and showed what he was capable of. Coaches will always have ups and downs, but he proved his ceiling early. Fran has too, but some people don’t want to see it and think a unicorn is coming.

Mr. Davis was let go to take Iowa to the next level. It was the wrong decision long term, but it does happen in sports. Fran is locked in for life because of Barta, and he has to get himself to a level he’s never been at just to get Iowa back to Mr. Davis’s level.

My frustration is with Fran’s coaching, my anger is with Barta taking hope away.

When did Villinova win a National Championship? Because that was technically his ceiling. Meaning he didn't show his ceiling early.

I just see it as they get marginally better next year and 2 years from now they are really good. Imo, if they do something special in 19-20 then the last 2 years would have been worth it. Odds are that it will not play out that way and it is just wishful thinking on my part.

Out of curiosity I went backed and looked at Nova's recruiting since Jay Wright seems to be a subject of fascination around here, I'd encourage you to go back in the time machine and look at the recruiting profiles of the guys Jay Wright had to start his first few years. Fully stocked cupboard for a program that wasn't bad when he inherited it. Then after he had his first taste of tournament success 5 star after 5 star. It's almost embarrassing how little success he had in the early part of this decade considering he could almost field a starting 5 of 5 star guys.

Fran is finally starting to get closer to that level of success on the recruiting trail. This is the first time he's had so many 4 star guys on his roster. And he's going to have balance between the front and back court. I would not be surprised if next year is Fran's best year yet.

Final four to championship. So basically 8 more years of Fran for 1 sweet 16

Not knocking anyone, but if life was that linear would we enjoy it as much? Spring is coming, but how many snow and ice storms will we endure before it's here for good. Think of your job, your family (or kids, if you have them), you favorite pro and college sports team, your stock portfolio. Ups and downs across the board. I'm starting to wonder if we overachieved the last two years and were due for a correction. That being said a trip to the dance and extended run would be really nice. I can fully understand the frustration. I respect anyone who would want better. But the very nature of a college basketball season dictates that very few will end a given season satisfied.

Have you see McNeese State beating Lamar Cardinals. They have worse records than Iowa. Tell me if you think Iowa Basketball is in shambles? I bet if we schedule Mc Neese 10 games this year, we win only one game out of 10 games.
I think it's time for GB to take a hike! Do I make sense?
This season has soiled my love of Iowa basketball and I don't like it. The Lick years did that a little too, but this feels way worse because of Barta and the fact that he is so lost on actual results driven goals. Iowa basketball was the first sport that I got into as a kid and has always been such a big part of my fandom, and I found myself worse than apathetic this year. I actually found myself laughing or even hoping they would lose, just to drive change.

Its like my best friend is dating a horrible person, and I told him how horrible she is, and then he decided to marry her. Yeah, he had bad girlfriends before, but it never felt permanent like this does. I want her to cheat and break his heart, so I can get my friend back.

It is a weird dichotomy of emotion to wish ill upon something you care about in the hopes to make it better. Iowa needs to suck to drive change. I don't know, maybe Barta can get sued a couple more times and this bad dream can be over.
