Does that new rule take effect this year? I believe it was in December? Do we expect commits to sign early???

2018 recruits who verbal before December are all told that the expectation by the coaches is that they all sign the LOI in December. Kelvin Bell is on record as saying that any verbal who doesn't sign in December will most likely have their scholly offer pulled and told to look elsewhere.

Actually I think they meant that they would begin to recruit other players for their scholarship, but would still accept their commitment in February if said spot was still open.

That may be what they mean, but on the HawkCentral podcast that Kelvin Bell was on recently, it sure sounded like he said that any verbal that doesn't sign in December would effectively be told to look elsewhere....

And I agree with this. It allows Iowa to know who really is on board. It also means that you can relax on the "once you verbal, you can't take anymore visits policy. You keep recruiting all positions based on a verbal. I mean, a recruit could still take all of his visits after December. This would make it easier to target higher ranked kids and not come across and to rigid, but still have a fail safe of the early signing period. You simply say, if you take an official visit after you verbal, we'll start recruiting your position, but we still expect you to sign in December.

I'm a big supporter of the coaching staff but, let's face it, they must hope that other teams don't hold to the same strict standard with their recruits.

Very true. But with the introduction of the December signing period, I think they can lock up and get the majority of their classes signed in Dec with just a few spots left to fill by Feb. Should alleviate the free-for-all in the last 6 weeks....at least I hope so....
