With such a deep rotation and with such a small difference from the starters to the reserves, it's time for Fran to let the players play with fouls. Sitting on the bench for long periods of time getting out of rhythem, all for the chance that you might need them at the end of the game, is flawed logic.

More often then not, the player in foul trouble never makes a meaningful contribution anyway because they never get into the flow and play to tentatively when they're out there. If Cook gets fouls, keep him in his normal rotation and tell him to stay aggressive but be a little smarter. If he fouls out with 10 minutes left, hopefully the game is out of reach anyway. If not, is it that big of a deal to have Pemsl out there? Like Wolfgang says, don't foul out your own players.

I have a question that may be a bit off subject, but it is mentioned in the article. How tall is Jack Nunge? I've seen him listed anywhere from 6' 9" to 6' 11". Just curious .. ..

GO HAWKS!!!

I thought the article was pretty well written as it identified strengths and weaknesses on the team. Rob also briefly touched on how Iowa does when expectations are high and that part of Hawkeyes sports isn't pretty in football or basketball.

Yes it said he is 6'9" and 210 lbs.

Future is definitely bright! I can't wait to see how these young guys mature, add in Garza, Nunge and (maybe) Conner and we have some serious depth!

I really hope uhl has a big off season. I don't want to see a kid bust his butt for 3 years only to watch on his last go around.

I know .. but if you do a search for him on Google, you'll see a number of sites. Some list him at 6'9", some list him at 6'10" and some list him at 6'11". His high school's athletic web site lists him at 6'11" and 220 pounds. Now, I know high schools have a tendency to put out misinformation, but there are other sites listing him as that tall. I'm just wondering what's accurate.

GO HAWKS!!!

I vote for 6'11" and 220 lbs.:D

When he signed with Iowa, the Hawkeyes listed him at 6-11, 220 - LINK.

That's probably based on his high school listing. We'll find out when he gets here. :)

I saw Garza and Nunge standing together on the field before a game when they visited. Garza looked taller and definitely thicker.

Not saying I completely disagree with this - but I've gone back and forth with Wolfgang on Twitter on this issue.

I think there's more to it then that, just sitting a guy no matter what who get's 2 in the first half. Just in the SD game he brought Jok back in at the 5:00 or so mark when SD went on a run with 2 fouls after sitting him immediately after picking it up. I think he sits guys who get 2 fouls and see's how it goes. I would say 9 out of 10 times - that player goes out and Iowa goes on a run, so why in the world would you bring them back? When they don't go on a run, he's proven (just 1 game ago) that he will bring them back in.

We could contend for a BIG title next year, but I think it has less to do with the development of our players than it has to do with our willingness to play defense.
I think we have a flawed philosophy to start. We're always in helter skelter mode because everyone is switching leading to wide open 3's. Why can't we just help out and get back our man? The helter skelter mode may work with Kentucky's athletes because they're long, interchangeable and have quick feet; that doesn't work with Bohannon and Jok on the floor. Even during our late run this year, and with our seniors last year when we beat good teams it's because they missed WIDE OPEN 3's. That's playing against the averages.

Well that just means Garza is 7' 1" then;)

I grew six inches one summer. If you saw Nunge at a football game that has been awhile ago. These guys bodies can change a lot before their done growing. Garza could be seven foot one by the time he gets to Iowa. They both could be done growing too. Its that time of year when McCaffery will meet with his players individually. Hopefully, everyone will be back next year.

The only thing Rob wrote about expectations is that they will be raised next season -- an NIT birth will be a serious disappointment. He's right. But making the NCAA is not a "high" expectation.

Ending the Final Four drought in 2018? Now that's an expectation that's not only high but foolish.

He didn't mention football.

Are you adding your own opinion to Rob's or claiming Rob said that?

Making the NCAA tournament does not equal high expectations. If that's anyone's idea of high expectations, that person(s) should be beaten into unconsciousness with a rubber hose. Those can be the expectations. But you can't say those are high expectations.

I know you want a B1G title Lightning, but those are not easy to come by. For instance a HOF coach at Iowa got 1 B1G title in 9 years, and it was a 3 way tie at 13-5. The year Lute won the B1G they got bounced early from the NCAA tournament. When Iowa finished 4th in the B1G at 10-8 they made the final 4. Personally I'd take a 4th place B1G finish and a final 4 run over winning the B1G and not even making the sweet 16.

Over Lutes last 4 years he won 10, 12, 13, 10, and B1G games. Fran has won 10, 12, 12, 9. So 2 less games over the last 4 years.

Listen I'm not saying Fran is better, or really even close to what Lute was. What I am saying is it isn't easy to win the conference even as a HOF coach at Iowa.

Let's get the new kids acclimated first, shall we? Look, Dean's right, winning this thing is monstrumental....sweet 16? Take a deep breathe....we had a surprise of a season imo. Damn near made the dance, should still be playing in the NIT...we have to replace a prolific scoring machine, we need to be better on defense, on the free throw line, etc...I'm excited, and we should become better, the young kids are battle tested and ready for more....we can all sit back, sip a nice cool one and dream a little dream b/c once November '17 gets here, we'll be going nuts and standing in line for tix.....
