Howe: Hawkeyes Will Return with Talent, High Expectations in '17-18

That is fine, there is nothing wrong with your opinion, just realize lots of people see it differently. I just find it hard to make it my yearly expectation that Iowa should win the B1G when a HOF coach only managed that feat once in 9 years and even then only with a 13-5 record and a 3 way tie.

You have your expectations and others have theirs.
You're putting words in my mouth. Nowhere have I ever said that a BIG title is the expectation every year. Are you back to your old ways again? Putting words in other people's mouth?

Perhaps it would help if you would explain your version of "high expectations" all you did was come on here and tell us what you thought it wasn't. I agree with you, reaching the NCAA tournament is not "high expectations" for next years team that is the minimum expectations. To me high expectations is winning the Big Ten, contending for the National Championship.

Not putting words in your mouth at all. I am telling you that this is how your words are perceived by me. They are two different things. Just because you maybe didn't say that, this doesn't mean that you don't leave that impression for me at least.

Agreed.

If my posts give you the impression that we need to win the BIG every year....You've got severe mental problems and you should stop visiting the internet. Nothing good will come of it.

Hey man, this is Iowa. We don't talk about championships around here. That kind of silly talk is only for elite programs. Fans here need to be realistic. Just as Iowa football fans should never expect more than 7 wins in a year, an NIT birth is about right.

Fans don't need to be realistic. Most aren't, not really. Context and situational examples don't really matter either.

We should talk championships, absolutely, and if there is a fan that doesn't want that for their team, then they are not a fan. So talk about it, make it happen.

I dont care who's coaching. Unless you are a mid-major team in a 1 tourney bid league, making the tournament is never "high expectations". I don't ever see myself conceding this argument. For any reason.

Is making the round of 32 "high expectations" for this particular team? I think it would be, but that's me. It would also give great promise for '19

Lightning, I've been trying to play nice with you, but you make it soooooo damned hard sometimes.

I didn't sit around bashing how completely stupid you were for ripping on Jordan Bohannon non stop before he got to play one minute of basketball this season. I didn't rip on you for claiming that Iowa couldn't finish above 9th or 10th place prediction without luck crap that you spewed all over this board all off season. Plus if you wanna bring up the metal problems, how about the fact that you not once, but twice accused me of saying things about Christian Williams that I never said. I had to talk you off the ledge two times on this, because you certainly don't remember what I say on this board.

So excuse the **** out of me if I got what you meant wrong.

High expectations, for me, specifically for Next year's team, is still being in the hunt for the regular season Big Championship by mid February, and not only making the Dance, but making it to round of 32(really probably should make the Sweet 16 in a High Expectations scenario), and being very competitive in the that game.

In 2019, barring no significant injury or attrition, my "High Expectations", will be a BIG championship and and Elite 8 or better run.....and consistency game in, game out.

After that, we should be pulling top 25 recruiting classes every year and have sustained top 4 B1G success.

Besides when Lick tanked it - the NCAA has never really been out of reach historically for the Iowa program the last 30-40 years. It should be the ground floor expectation every year and when it's not met, it needs to be because of something....injury, turnover, youth - those are all legit reason that can cause it, you just don't want that to be the norm. My high end expectations are winning the B1G regular season and making it past the first weekend of the NCAA - Fran has finished 3rd, 3rd and 5th the last 3 seasons - we're not far from it -we're not talking about being 10 games off, we're talking about 2 or 3 wins a season -we're talking a couple of bad bounces and calls going the other way for Iowa - a shot falling or a foul going the other way.

We were 2 missed shots by opponents away from winning the Big 10 last year. A Ferrell 3 late and a Hayes 3 late.

That's probably not "high" expectations. I think that's about where they should be. They were a bubble team this year with most of the roster returning. High expectations would be to win the BIG title and a Sweet 16. Those are high expectations.

Can't argue with that. Those are certainly high expectations. While i agree those should be goals, to expect it is a stretch. In my mind, expecting them to be in the hunt for a B1G title by mid-late Feb is reasonable, which would likely mean no worse than 3rd.

I expect no worse than a top 4 B1G finish, at least 1 B1G tourney win, and make the Dance at a 9 seed or better. But I Want a B1G title, B1G tourney championship, Sweet 16.
