Experimental rule changes for NIT

For anyone who didn't see the NIT selection show, they briefly talked about a few experimental rule changes they are going to try out in the NIT. To summarize:

Each half will have two ten minute segments

Each team will be allowed four personal fouls per segment. After that teams will shoot two free throws (no one and ones)

Each team will be allowed three fouls in an overtime period before free throws are awarded.

I apologize if I got any of this wrong. They only talked about these changes briefly.

Also, I believe they said that there will be a 20-second shot clock when the ball's inbounded in the front court.

The segment part is kind of weird. Like if the ball is in play when the 10 minute mark hits do they stop play or do they just reset the fouls on the fly? If the game stopped you'd think they'd just call it quarters.

It will be a 4 quarter game. The ladies have been playing like this all year. At the start of the quarter I think they use the held ball to determine who gets the ball to start the next quarter.

Each half will have two ten minute segments I like but why don't they just call them quarters? F'ing stupid.

Each team will be allowed four personal fouls per segment. After that teams will shoot two free throws (no one and ones). Will a team still shoot free throws if any of the first four are when an opposing player is shooting or do they just start shooting after the 4th? Not sure I like this. I like the pressure of the 1-in-1's. Don't like that.

I like this.
That's only a factor in the last minute though right? Or can you advance the ball with a timeout anytime?

I like the overall idea of the new foul rule but it could be a headache to implement from a ref or scoreboard person perspective. I also have always liked the 1 and 1 rule since itshe an incentive to be a good free throw shooter.

What about the experimental rule that a player is not out-of-bounds if only one foot is out-of-bounds while touching the ball?

Are they continuing with that rule for the NIT or was that just within the boundaries of the state of Minnesota?

That does seem odd.

I'd like to see overtime start by giving all players that haven't fouled out, an extra foul to give (move it to 6 fouls to foul out). Something I've always thought, for the fan's sake, to see the best players on the court in overtime. Imagine an Iowa-ISU game where Jok, Cook, and Bohannon have fouled out and Morris, Long, and Burton have fouled out. We're letting the best players get the game to OT (or double/triple OT) and letting the bench guys decide it. Just my personal opinion, which I could definitely see arguments against.

Yes, I thought that part of stupid. Just call it quarters and get it over with.

From what I understand the fouls simply reset at 9:59. I don't think they will even stop play.

Yes I'm pretty sure this is it.

I thought it was stupid it breaking it up into quarters at first. But now, I don't mind so it can keep game flow going.

Just follow the women's side with four ten minute quarters with fouls resetting shooting double bonus on the 5th.

Simple change and good. No reason to make it more complicated than it needs to be.
