Playstation Vue Core Slim Package

Anybody have the Playstation Vue? I think I could get by with the Core Slim package which includes the BTN, ESPN's, Fox Sports, etc.. I believe it includes all the locals plus Discovery which I like. Couple questions. Would this give me all I would need to view Hawkeye football and basketball games? Those of you who have the Vue, are you missing any games?

Also, would one miss the overflow stations early on in the football season? General thoughts on Playstation Vue.

Thanks.

IMO playstation vue is the best streaming tv service out there. I don't like that you can't take it with you outside of your house, but within the house it is pretty good.

If you are technically savvy in any way I would highly recommend using Kodi.

What do you mean you can't take Vue outside your house? Don't they just limit you to 2 devices, regardless where you watch from? How can they localize the streaming to your house?

You're going to make me Google that aren't you?

Trust him/her, PS Vue does NOT have a "mobile" watching option. Also, for "DVR"-type stuff, it's not great for live sports. You select an airing of live sports as one of "My Shows". It then records the next ten, erasing anything older. So...record a noon Hawks game as "College Football" on ESPN, and what do you think you'll have by Sunday night?

It's also a bitch in terms of on-screen "guide", and you can not "surf" channels. And no live CBS, for whatever reason. And ABC/NBC are only "live-accessible" for SOME programming, IIRC.

I had it for a month. Better than Sling, but at this point in the season? Bag on it. Wait until the morning of opening day of football season (for the Hawks, not those stupid Thursday/Friday games featuring a P5 against Middle Arkansas Institute of Cosmetology) and sign up for free trial. That gives you the first TWO games for free, with that week to see how it "looks" for you. You're welcome :)

BTW, for those wondering, ESPN/WatchESPN and BTN2Go/Plus do NOT work outside the good ol' USA. Found that out the hard way last Fall.

So Bob, you're saying it's rather Klunky working with it at this point, and they may be misrepresenting themselves a bit in their advertising? Thanks.

Looking at their site they make it sound like there are mobile options and a cloud to save programming. Yea. I don't think my wifey would be too happy if she had that crap to deal with. You saved me Bob!!

Vue limits you to 5 active devices, and those devices have to be on your home IP address. You don't have to have a static IP address (almost all of us use DHCP) but your vue will know your home location and restrict the devices from working outside of that location. Also there are issues with mobile devices in general.

Kodi is basically just a media player. What makes it powerful is you can then install 3rd party apps that plugin to Kodi and allow you to do...everything. By everything I mean watch tv, watch live sports, watch out of market sports, watch live ppv, watch netflix, watch movies...everything.

Are the apps for Kodi legal in the US or is it viewed as pirating? Thanks for the info.

It is a grey area. Kodi itself doesn't write the illegal apps, but it is open source, so you have someone out there that will write it. Then basically you can gets protected content for "free". So at that point, yeah that part is pirating and is illegal.

I tried the free 7 days with the Vue and felt it was more than good enough to use. Just make sure you have a reliable internet connection. Some bugs to it for sure, but you will get all the Hawk games as it has BTN, and ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU. Also make sure you can get your locals through an antenna, or you could us a Tablo as well. Only certain markets have network live streaming, so if they offer where you are at you are set, otherwise you need one of the other options.

Kodi itself is legal in that its just a media player. You can play your own files and movies from it just as you would Windows Media Player. Where it gets gray is with the 3rd party apps you choose to install. You'll have to decide for yourself where you stand on those sorts of issues because not even the law can figure out how to handle these things or if they're even illegal.

Personally I just hooked my Kodi thru a proxy server in Canada so I don't have to worry about it

I have the Vue Elite package for the last 6 months and plan to cancel it after basketball season. It definitely is worth $35. The only local channel I can get live is kcci. The other local channels are only on demand. NFL games are the only sporting event that is restricted via mobile devices. I had to work a couple weekends ago(?) but was able to watch the whole Illinois v Iowa game on my IPhone. I have also watched Iowa football as well as other shows through the ps vue app. It is most definitely mobile. Reception is going to depend on your internet and data services though

Thanks.

I have playstation vue, and I love it. The charge is 34.99 with no other fees. Once you get used to the guide, it is easy to navigate. If you have it on playstation 4, it is great because they just added an option to have 3 separate channels on your screen at once. I tried it last night and it works great.

I came from Directv and I was on the fence, but I have had Sling and it is trash. PS Vue is the best option out there. I've had it for 5-6 months and I won't go back to anything else at this point.

Also in terms of games, with ESPN's and Big Ten Network, I didn't miss any Iowa games for football that I can remember, and I've seen all the basketball games except for the early season ones you could only get on BTN2GO.

Added bonus if you are a Cubs fan they have Chicago Sports net as well that carries a ton of cubs games.

I saw that. That is another huge factor in my decision. Hawks and Cubs games. Those were the deal maker or deal breaker for me.

Yeah, I have CSN on Dish, and the Cubs are a factor for me as well. As soon as my Dish contract is up, I'm moving to streaming. I watch the Cubs, Hawks, other sports, and just a couple shows. The wife needs Bravo and food network. Of course networks as well for news, etc. We just have so much crap/stuff that we never ever watch, and I will be saving $50 a month and I don't even have a crazy high Satellite bill ($85 a month or so).

Our experience with PS Vue has gone pretty well so far. I am still able to log into WatchESPN and BTN from my phone, using PS Vue as my provider in order to gain access- I prefer this to streaming from the PS Vue mobile app.

My only problem is our shitty internet service provider, CenturyLink, who only has up to 20 MBPS in our area. The stream can get pretty choppy at times. Thinking we may have to switch over to Mediascum in order to get up to 50 MBPS, which should solve the lagging issues.

$34.99 per month with no additional fees. I get pretty much all of the sports channels (missing CBS sports network) and other channels that I need, except I due miss Comedy Central and WGN since they'll have some Cubs games I won't be able to catch.

Overall, I'm glad we made the switch. Our DirecTv bill was up to $130/month. Just ridiculous!

The part of the DirecTv and Dish bills that are ridiculous is the monthy DRV fees. $15 for the first whole home DVR and then $7 a box. I mean for just 2 TV's it's $21 a month.
