All Big Ten Team

Who you got? I think 3 of them are obvious and it gets murky from there. I came up with this for now, but a few of them are interchangeable:

1st team:
Caleb Swanigan (U)
Peter Jok (U)
Ethan Happ (U)
Melo Trimble
Bryant McIntosh

2nd team:
Nate Mason
Thomas Bryant
Derrick Walton Jr
Nigel Hayes
Bronson Koenig

I'm not in love with McIntosh on the 1st team, but if you make your first NCAA appearance in team history, someone has to get rewarded, right? Also I wanted to get Bridges or Blackmon up there, but I think the other guys had better seasons.

Assuming Jok makes it, this would be the 4th year in a row Iowa has had a 1st team all big ten player...Marble, White, Uthoff, Jok

1st Team:
Trimble
Walton Jr
Jok
Swanigan
Happ

2nd Team:
McIntosh
Mason
Bridges
Hayes
Bryant

Honorable Mention (case for 2nd team):
Koenig
Hill
Webster

I think Trimble, Jok, Swanigan, and Happ are no-brainers. It's that 5th one that'll be up for grabs.

Tough call this year. Much like the league itself, quite a few guys have a case. I like to look at conference only stats and what I see with my own eyes. Based on that:

Caleb Swanigan - POY
Peter Jok
Bryant McIntosh
Miles Bridges
Ethan Happ

Nate Mason would be my sixth man.

Admittedly I didnt see Bridges play much this year so I didn't have him high up there. He is a stud though.

No Trimble eh? I have to admit I haven't seen a ton of him outside Iowa having played him. I thought Iowa's strategy and execution against him the other night was textbook and he had himself an off game shooting. Those two things together had him have a terrible game for him. But he's had a great season stats wise. He's playing with a really young group around him too. I'd say it's a coin flip between him and McIntosh so your two cents on it I find interesting.

The real question is does Iowa get Jok in 1st team and then do we get 2 freshman in All B1G freshman team. I think Cook is in and Jordan maybe.

Mason
Bridges
Happ

Koenig
Hayes
Walton
Bryant
Hill (McIntosh)

I'm torn between McIntosh and Hill. Illinois swept NW so that's my tiebreaker. I'm not penalizing Bryant because the guards on that team are selfish...or just dumb.

Don't think any Hawks will make the freshman team. Bridges, Coffey, Ward and Carr should be automatc, then probably Justin Jackson for the fifth. Last year no guards even made the freshman team, so Mike Watkins could be another big with a chance. Bohannon, Edwards, Lucas, Huerter and Cowan are all quality freshman guards but picking any of the them would be a toss up in itself. And I'd go with Cowan or Huerter above the other three, but Jackson is ahead of them on their own team. I don't think Cook has any chance, he only scores 11 a game and doesn't do anything else very well at this point. Pemsl would probably deserve it before him, nearly the same points and rebounds, but more blocked shots and better FG%. Cook is coming on lately, but I'd imagine voters have already made up their minds.

All-B10
Happ
Swanigan
Jok
Mason
Walton (but they will probably put Trimble on there)

I see your point, but I am still thinking Cook makes Freshman team. I think Bridges goes 1st or 2nd team all B1G. I am operating under the impression that means he is excluded from the Freshman team and I expect Cook to take that spot. Simply based on his tremendous upside. I'm probably just being a homer though.

Jok is 1st team. You don't NOT put the conferences' leading scorer on the first team.

I do agree with the assessment of JBo and Cook.

GO HAWKS!!!

Where would you have Jok in your POY standings? Just curious.

do they do an all Freshman team? I would think it would be very hard for Jordan not to be on that at this point.

I do think it's interesting that the 3 best games the Hawks have played this year have been where Jok was either absent from the lineup or played a more limited role.

There is better ball movement and better overall team defense when he isn't in the lineup.

Don't get me wrong....I appreciate his contributions to the team and he's been a great Hawkeye....but this team will play better I believe once he has moved on.

Bohannon is top 5 in assists and top 7 in 3 point field goals and assist/turn over ratio. That's overall, not just freshman. I'd put him on the all freshman team.

Just my $.02 .. .. GO HAWKS!!!

I hate to say it .. .. but I agree. It's as if the players look to Jok to be the leader .. .. to do something big .. .. when he's on the court. When he's not on the court, they look to make the opportunities themselves and when they get them .. they take them.

As Spider said .. I appreciate Jok and what he's done for the team. The Indiana game alone shows that he's the best individual player on the team. But it seems to be more of a team when he's not on the court.

I think our three best wins are against Iowa State, Purdue and at Maryland.

Jok had 29 points, 8 assists and six rebounds against Purdue. He had 23 points and 9 rebounds against ISU.

Pete isn't healthy right now but he still opens things up for everybody else on offense. Defenses need to account for him.

Yes, he hangs onto the ball too long sometimes and he's not a consistent player on defense, but I don't think we're a better team without him.

Only problem with that is Cassius Winston leads the league in assists with a better A/T ratio than Bohannon, while scoring almost the same amount of points and does it off the bench in only 20 minutes per game. And I forgot to even include him in my original list. He might be a contender as well but I don't think MSU gets 3 guys on the team.
