Dear Kirk

Yeah, the hawks had just got a first down, clock was stopped, there is only 20 seconds left so spike it and you have 40 seconds to call a play.

What did we need to reserve clock for? It was always just getting to field goal range, it wasn't like we needed a TD

Because in that situation, you want an additional 7 seconds in your pocket. If CJ hadn't been so aware of the clock on his last run, the clock would have expired and we'd be in OT. Come on, deano, it was a clock management mistake. We got lucky and it didn't cost us, but it was a mistake.

We were playing for a FG and only needed about 5-10 more yards. Clock it and you only get to run 2 more plays. We didn't clock it and guess what.....we ran 3 more plays.

People are right that KF has traditionally been terrible at CLock management, this wasn't one of them. Time wasn't the issue, making sure we got 5-10 more yards was the issue.

Look, mistake or not...it did not end up with us taking a knee on our 30 and settling for OT...they did what they could in the heat of the moment...CJ is a heads up player, but they lost about only 4 seconds, and he showed great poise and patience...I'll take this ending, good kick or bad kick, any day over the previous game end mismanagements the past whatever number of years!

We could have gotten 5-10 more yards if we had more time.. at least time for one more play - more if your QB is trained to spike it fast.

You aren't making any sense... more time = more plays which = more yards.

Who do you thought taught him that awareness?

I made this post before Koehn's 57 yard miracle kick...

However with better preparation we could have gotten a 47 yard kick instead of a 57.

Kirk is the absolute worst Div 1 or NFL coach I've seen far and away at time management.

It's nice that it didn't cost us this time... but it didn't change the reality.

Seriously?

We got to run 3 plays since we didn't spike it. If we spike it we get to run 2 plays. It cost us 7 seconds, big deal, it actually got us and extra play trying to get a few yards. We weren't going for a first down, we wanted/needed 5 yard tops really.

I'm going to have to agree right here. It's so much easier said than done. You have the luxury of sitting in a chair at home with 20/20 hindsight vision and be a perfect coach with no reproach. Deanvogs got it right because we won. Maybe we run a negative play with more time? If we lost go ahead and second guess...but you never know when you might need the extra down as well.

Just enjoy the win. The changes abound. Enjoy the ride.

Was Dear Kirk under center?

You guy are cracking me up...

Cj was looking to the sideline what to do... he clearly wasn't told to clock it.

I've been watching football for 30 years... Kirk is the only coach I can remember that doesn't train his QB's to clock the ball properly.

It's always been like this and its cost us games before.

It's a coaching thing.

Deano, CJ's awareness to know he couldn't make it to the sidelines is what saved us from OT and not textbook clock management from this staff. You can't predict what will happen, so in this situation, you preserve the clock. And to your point, we only ran 2 more plays, so spiking it on 1st down can only be a good thing. It also gives you 7 additional seconds on the clock to force the defense to still have to guard the middle of the field, because we still had a timeout.

Coulda woulda shoulda... But but but...

Hawks win. 2015 Kirk's team drove down and pulled off a win. Your father's Ferentz kneels it out. Enjoy the ride.

I just don't get why Kirk can't understand the utter importance of a quick spike...

It's funny how people think Kirk is "Mr. NFL"

He is so not Mr. NFL.
