2 disturbing quotes.

"I thought we lost this game almost in warm-ups,"

"We had two big wins coming into this one, and we weren't ready to go from the get-go. That stretch in the first half where we couldn't score, we couldn't get a good shot. We've got to keep attacking. We'll bounce back from it."

The 2 quotes above came from Aaron White and Mike Gesell in that order. 24 games into the season and this is what a Senior and Junior says? I don't even have the words to type anything else.

I did see those quotes. But I try to take the glass half full approach.

Gesell..."We'll bounce back from it."

White..."Just a little bump in the road."

Putting bad games, losses, poor efforts, etc. behind you is also important. We should be 8-5 after the next 2 and there won't be many conference teams with less than 5 losses at that point.

Your incredulity is nail-on-head. Smacks of being arrogant if this team thinks they can walk out on the court, pull their warm-ups off, and the OTHER team is going to wilt.

This team and these two have proven to be soft time and time again.

I was at the Wisconsin game and being a 30 yr. Basketball coach I told my dad this is an emotionless group. They play with no intensity...that is on the coach, and I will tell you why. As a coach if your guys don't play with emotion and passion you sit them. As a coach you control playing time...find passion and intensity or sit.

I will go ahead and state the obvious; Iowa just isn't very good at grinding out these type of games......The win at NC almost seems flukey at this point.

These types of games are tough for most teams unless the team is a Kentucky or Wisconsin caliber of team. We also won a couple close ones at Ohio State and Minnesota.

The good news is this team isn't really impacted by the crowd. I don't think they play better at home. I don't think they get intimidated on the road. When we're playing well we win and when we're not playing well we lose...venue isn't really a factor IMO.

Because they beat Minnie by 17 earlier this season so just walking out on the floor should have provided a W.

No, they beat Minnesota by 2, and they almost gave up a tying layup....the Minnesota player was just a tad too late on his shot.

I don't know what you expect from them. The team had a letdown. Deal with it.

You sound just like them. 24 games into the season and a 2nd pace finish in the conference is possible and a 4 year and 3 year starter thought they had it lost in warm ups. Again, I don't have any words at this point.

By the way, a letdown is one game. This is a pattern for Iowa basketball for the past 2 years.

My fault 83.
I forgot to turn on the sarcasm siren.

:)

On the positive side, it's obvious White and Gesell are reading what Cyclone players say after a unexpected loss so we're 1/2 there.

2 years? LOL this program has been nothing but a let down since the '87 NCAA tournament

This quote doesn't shock me. The team simply seemed unready to play. Actually the whole game had a bad vibe to it, from a emotionless crowd, to players that just looked like they were at a practice. They finally came alive with about 2 min. to go, but the first 38 min. was passionless.

The truth is they did lose the games in warm ups. Not coming out ready to play happens all the time in college sports. Do you think Kentucky came out ready to play when they needed to dodge a last second 3 to beat LSU? Not being ready for every game isn't just an iowa problem.

I would rather them acknowledge they weren't ready and try to learn from it than ignore it and pretend it didn't happen.

Yep.
