THIS is what's missing

Because his recruiting has been awful of late. Evidence of this can be seen in the fact he started a FB at RB for the past 2 years. That has nothing to do with intensity, though. If you were to talk with most of his former players, I'd bet they would tell you KF is intense and wants to win as much as anyone else.

I disagree 100% with what I've bolded. Recruiting has everything to do with intensity and relentlessness.

He wants to win, just not enough to improve recruiting or adjust schemes to fit his players...

Really doesn't seem like he "wants to win as much as anyone else", since recruiting, schemes, etc. are all under his control.

This. Brands is emotional and expects "perfection".

Ferentz is unemotional and expects "execution."

The goal Is the same but one guy you like listening to because he gets the juices flowing and the heart beating faster.

Yes, the goal is the same. However, it is much harder to achieve in football than in wrestling.

Wrestling is ten individuals competing one at a time. If one makes a mistake it's only on that one wrestler; he can sometimes overcome that mistake. For example, if you miss on a takedown you can get a reversal; if you miss on turning the opponent to his back you can get riding time. Perfection is attained by the elimination of mistakes and it is much easier to attain as a wrestler because it's just one person.

Football is eleven team members competing as a unit. If one makes a mistake it's all that suffer that mistake and it's all that have to overcome that mistake and it's often very difficult to overcome that mistake. If a back misses a hole, the play goes nowhere and all have to overcome that; if a lineman misses a block, the play goes nowhere and they all have to overcome that. You can come up with scenarios for each of the 11 players to fail to execute and the entire play has failed. Execution creates perfection, but it's got to be all eleven players coordinated and timed perfectly to execute to perfection. That means that if even one player doesn't execute at the proper time, then the necessary execution did not occur. It's a much more difficult feat for all eleven players to execute a play.

I'm not diminishing the difficulty of wrestling. Only stating that you as a wrestler are not dependent upon your teammates when executing on the mat; you are only dependent upon yourself.

------Do you really think Kirk doesn't get frustrated with how his teams have been playing?

Nope....not enough to change his stubborn/lazy ways.

Some of you are funny. The last mouth breather that got all fired up and yelled at the players is now at Nebraska. How did that work out for the d-line? Or maybe you'd like to have Mike Stoops walk the sideline spitting on the refs. Dude shows all sorts of fire, right?

We just need a coach who can run our program and win. Lots of personalities do it. Kirk did it when he was younger. Can he do it now? Hell if I know, but I am going to find out. He got his wake up call this year, what will he do with it??

I don't know one thing about wrestling....and frankly, don't really care to. But reading this headline almost makes me want to either cry or punch a wall...maybe I'll do both. One program is disgusted by not pitching a shutout in a sport where I'm guessing it's almost unheard of....another program is now elated to win by ANY margin over ANY team....no matter how terrible the opponent. Very telling the difference in expectations far as where the bar is now raised...or should I say lowered.

Because Iowa football would win 10+ games a year if they just "tried harder" or "had an attitude to dominate."

Wrestling and football are completely different sports. Most of the SEC/South doesn't even compete in the sport. In terms of recruiting base, tradition, resources commitment to the sport, etc., Iowa wrestling is the equivalent of Alabama or tOSU or LSU. I applaud the effort and excellence of the Iowa program. But building a national champion in wrestling and football at Iowa are completely different propositions/challenges.

This.

Although I would argue that Iowa Wrestling is above Alabama, tOSU, or LSU in CFB. They and Okie State are so far and above every other team in terms of history and number of titles there really isn't even a comparison in college football.

That said yes, it isn't breaking news that we don't have a coach that talks like Brands does coaching our football team.

Not anymore. He was pretty ****** about it, too. I don't feel sorry for him, either.

The wake-up call should have been at least two seasons ago.

Baloney. Ferentz has lost to ISU numerous times when Iowa has had far superior talent. (this year, especially) ISU was fricking horrible and the Game was at Kinnick.
Ferentz should have been fired immediately after that game as it was quite possibly the worst exhibition of division 1 coaching (or lack thereof) I have ever seen.

Iowa was not a good team last year and I never said KF has been an excellent coach the past 5 years. Are you saying we lost to ISU because Kirk doesn't care enough?
